Wow. And the saddest part, that lineup will probably score more runs than the Cubs did today.

This was something quite interesting that was posted in today's game thread. These stats are in reference to the Cardinals and Pujols prior to today's game.

 

pre-injury (thru jun 3)

won-loss: 34-21 (.618)

runs per game: 5.02

runs created/27 outs: 4.93

homers/27 outs: 1.02

avg: .275

obp: .351

slg: .423

 

post-injury (since jun 3)

won-loss: 6-5 (.500)

runs per game: 5.73

runs created/27 outs: 5.45

homers/27 outs: 0.75

avg: .303

obp: .361

I'm sorry Cards fans on here - it's pixie dust. The Cubs are bad, but their lineup is really not THAT much worse than what STL is currently running out there.

Like somebody else said, it's just eleven games. Rolen and Encarnacion are red hot right now...that's not going to last forever. But it would be nice if it lasted until Pujols was healthy again.

There it is.

 

That doesn't mean the Cardinals current lineup isn't better than the Cubs current lineup. Encarnacion has quietely stopped being entirely useless, Eck and Rolen have been great, Edmonds is producing closer to capabilities, Molina's ops is getting closer to his prOPS, and Luna has blossomed into a legitimate major leaguer. We've also been getting good pitching lately.
