If you don't think these people are accountable, this thread isn't for you.

It's pretty obvious that the combination Hendry/Dusty/Larry aren't getting the job done. With another wave of young talent coming up (Pie/Murton/Ronny/Marshall/Marmol, etc) a strong veteral core and pen(DLee/Barrett/Z/Eyre/Dempster/Howry), a lot of trading capital (Prior/Wood/Pierre/Ramirez/Jones) and some cap room coming up for FA (Carlos Lee!), now is a great time to start fresh. I'm not delusional enough to believe this will actually happen, but just want to daydream about what comination would be perfect for this team.

My GM: Hendry. It's hard to work with a guy who needs 18 2B and refuses to take any responsibiltiy.

My Manager: Art Howe. We missed the boat on Jim Leyland, but still think his ability to work with young players and pitchers is something this team needs. He got a terrible rep in NY with some spoiled players and terrible signings, but think he could do well with Jim here.

My Pitching Coach: Steve Stone/Terry Rooney. Sure, Mazzone would have been perfect, but he's not going anywhere now. The man is just a genius. I don't know if he has coaching skills, but how many people are more respected and intelligent. Since Hendry won't hire him, I'd like to look at Rooney. He's the PC at Notre Dame, which has pumped out some great pitchers from an average program. Sure, its' a long shot, but I like it!

What do you think would be the best combo for the Cubs?

is this fantasy or realistic? i'll do somewhat realistic, i guess.

gm: paul depodesta. can rebuild the farm system, maybe get some quality position prospects, values obp. i wish the cubs would go after him hard. but it'll never happen. but he is available, so somewhat realistic.

manager: i don't really care. just someone who isn't dusty. if they have a minor grasp on how to construct a lineup, when to double switch, and when to take out pitchers, they're good enough for me. larry dierker, fredi gonzalez, whatever. just not dusty anymore.

pc: tom house? i don't really know much about pitching coaches. but i've heard good things about the guy, and he's not a pitching coach for anyone right now.

Who's Shapiro's protege whose name has been brought up some? Him or DePo would be okay by me.

Manager is impossible to tell from where we are. We can see the results of the approach whether good or bad, but when it comes to hiring you just can't tell.

Same with the pitching coach. I guess we can speculate on who may work well, but in the end we probably no very little, and frankly I don't have any guesses.

Is that the one who was on tv awhile back because he was like a computer programmer and was making all kinds of new programs to help Shapiro evaluate talent? Either way Cleveland has 2 assistant GMs, Chris Antonetti and John Mirabelli

For my dream scenario I'd have Schuerholtz (GM), Bobby Cox (Man.), and Alan Dunn (P.C.). I'd also have Von Joshua promoted to ML hitting coach.

Wait, you criticize Hendry and then list him as part of your dream scenario?

I didn't criticize Henry. I said the combination of the 3 was a failure.

This is what I'm talking about, it's a contradiction.

I believe he's saying that Jim has problems working with dusty. In other words, that the poor makeup of the team is Dusty's fault rather than Jim's.

I think he's referring to Dusty as "a guy who needs 18 2B and refuses to take any responsibility." In other words, giving Hendry a pass because it's hard to work with Dusty.

That's the only way I was remotely able to make any sense of it. I definitely don't agree with it, though.

Ahh. The second basemen part threw me, since neither take responsibility.

GM: Billy Beane (makes nice moves for a team that has been in financial turmoil....imagine what he could do with a nice payroll)

Manager: Bobby Cox (disciplinarian when he has to be / good baseball moves / knows how to set a lineup....all things I miss!!!)

Pitching Coach: Dave Duncan (Seems to make mediocre/bad pitchers good)

Yes, that's what I was trying to say.

GM: Theo

Manager: Fredi Gonzalez with a specially selected member of NSBB as a consultant (who could also work with Theo, not that he'd need it much)

Pitching Coach: Maddux (or Leo if Maddux still didn't want to do it)
