Heard the Reds announcer on The Score on Saturday and here's what he said. He said that Dunn is available but it would take a HR hitter back in return. New Reds owner says $$$$ is there to add someone in July if the Reds are still close. Marty said that the left side of the Reds infield is terrible defensively. He predicted they would move Encarcion to first, move Lopez to 3rd next year. Dunn will always be a poor OF. He said Freel can't play everyday because he'll break down.

Here's how I will solve their problem. Dunn for ARam, Murton and Jerome Williams. Williamson and Novoa to WhiteSox for Josh Fields(3rd).

Wow that seems like a lot.

And yet is probably not enough. Plus Aramis makes a lot of money.

I'm less and less impressed with Adam Dunn every time I see him.

The guy's content to stand at the plate and take pitches until he gets one that he can launch 400+ ft. He'll actually succeed at doing so around 50 times a year.

The other 600 plate appearances, he either gets walked, or makes an out... most frequently, a strikeout.

Yeah, it's tough to imagine that .950 OPS and .390 OBP being useful to anyone.

I'm not the biggest Dunn fan myself, but team construction must be balanced. Dunn and Lee in the 3-4 is the ideal make-up for a team.

It legitimizes a Pierre style lead-off hitter and allows development of a player such as Cedeno at the bottom of the lineup where he has thrived, or Pie next year if/when Pierre departs.

Dunn is a fit and a need for this team.

dont forget his horrible defense. i would rather have aram & murton than dunn & i hope the cubs would too.

Just say no to Dunn...he may be the worst defensive of in the history of the game. He hits meaningless hr's, like the one yesterday, and he hits .230. Sure he draws walks, but who cares when the only thing he does is homer or walk and nothing in between.

Even if Dunn were available, do people really think that this Cubs' organization, with the way it's run right now, would have any interest in trading for Dunn?

More likely the Cubs would dish out a bunch of prospects for Carlos Lee. Much more the Cubs' style. :x

I'm not anti-Dunn...I think he would be a much much needed threat in the lineup, but it really all depends on the deal. I think the reason I don't like the Aram idea is 2 fold...

1) Why would Cincy want A-Ram? They have Edwin Encarnacion there and he's doing pretty well.

2) Who would replace A-Ram at 3rd? He's the first consistency we've had at that position in my lifetime, and I'm hesitant to give that up without a plan for replacement.

the original poster indicated that Encarnacion could possibly move to first, and that we would also make a deal for Josh Fields from the sox to man third.

Personally I would much rather try and use Aramis in some sort of ARod deal.

who's to say the sox would even consider trading fields (especially to the cubs)? even if they would by some outside chance (and the cubs would most likely have to way overpay for him btw) whos to say he's ready to play in the majors every day?

I am not a huge fan of Fields (he is putting up some monster numbers this year though) and I would probably not target him. It was the original posters idea.

He hits meaningless hr's.

There is no such thing.

But if there were such a thing, Dunn would be the one hitting them. And we all know there's no such thing as a "clutch hitter". But if there were, I guarantee the opposite of one would be Adam Dunn.

Before the season began, I wanted Dunn and his .900+ OPS between Lee and Ramirez more than just about anything in the world.

I live near Cincinnati and this year started to follow the Reds as much as I follow the Cubs. Now, I'd have to think twice before I'd trade Jacque Jones for him. Seriously.

And if unicorns existed, Ben Kingsley would be the world's 3rd largest breeder.

I hope the Cubs trade for Dunn; they really need someone with his patience. But I guarantee he'd still drive everyone nuts.

Meh...all the Cubs drive me nuts anyways. No big change.

The Sox are in need of middle relief and a CF. If I thought we would bring up Pie immediately, I would trade JP to them. With Joe Crede a lock at 3rd, the Sox were going to try Josh Fields in the OF in the minors. He would be available for the right price. They want to win this year.

I know that Dunn is a terrible LF, on the par with Dave Kingman. But if we are looking for power in LF-there's Dunn and Carlos Lee. Please tell me if there is another power hitting LF on any team.

1. Dunn would definitely fill a need for the Cubs, OBP and power (two needs, I guess).

2. With the emergence of Marmol and Marshall (along with a healthy Guzman and the "potential" on Hill) the Cubs likely have the kind of talent that the Reds could be looking for.

3. Despite 1 and 2 above, I absolutely do not believe that Hendry would ever "target" Dunn. My guess is he frowns on the strikeouts and low BA (which is stupid, IMO).

I don't see the Reds and Cubs being a match right now as long as the Reds are trying to contend this year.

On the other hand, I could see the Reds unloading Dunn in the offseason if they felt they could free up money to go after players they desire.

At that point, the Cubs and Reds could come to a deal.

See now that's kinda what I was thinking. Why would the Reds trade Dunn when their in contention? The only thing I could think of was pitching help, but I think someone earlier said they wanted a slugger back...I don't get it.
