Well at least next year we won't have to worry about if Wood will be healthy. He's gone. We are going to have some money to spend on pitching...

And to think that just 2 short years ago, Wood and Prior were considered the best young 1-2 combo in the game. Now our $10 million man can't make it to the fifth inning and the so-called "best college pitcher ever" is giving up 3-run HRs to AA players. I can't think of this getting any worse, can you?

Oh c'mon guys. This is a minor diversion.

Long toss, towel drill, mound throwing, live hitters, simulated game, setback, live hitters, simulated game, first minor league rehab, second minor league rehab and he's back for a game or two in Mid-August.

Yah, it's really no big deal as long as he's good to go for the World Series.

Yup.

Does anyone have any good wallpaper for summer? I need something to replace my Wrigley Field background on my PC.

Well, I thought I would never be saying this, but at least if nothing else, it is going to make the decision on whether to pick up that option a lot easier. If it was mediocre starts, then they would be on the fence on picking it up. If he spends most of the year on the DL, it will be a no brainer.

When Wood leaves at the end of the year and signs with another team, will the Cubs get a good compensation pick for next year's draft?

What do you think the chances are that Wood goes to the Yankees as a FA, they give him a two-year deal, and it turns into gold for both parties?

Funny, I just emailed my friend who is a die hard Yankee fan, and said that exact thing. As soon as he takes the cubbie blue off, and George signs him, things will be coming up sunny for him!

The other thing is, what do you think the chances are that the socks take a flyer on him? That could happen, and why not, if the risk is not too much?

Well it looks like we will be defending the simulate title we seem to win every year! I heard the Cubs are favorites to win the simulated WS once again with Wood on the DL again!

The rankings are based on 2 year stats, so I think we're in trouble.

This DL trip seems different to me. I feel closure in that I've completely given up on Kerry and am ready for his Cubs career to end.

Could not agree with you more. I'm not shocked nor am I bummed. I'm glad we will be without Wood starting next year. Time to move on already!

So let's see next years staff so far.

Prior (we'll see)

Marshall

right now the cubs are better off w/ guzman starting over wood.

hopefully they keep starting Guzman for the rest of the year. In fact keep starting Guzman and Hill in place of Wood and Rusch. We have to see what we have for enxt year and the future.

seriously, bring him back as a reliever when he returns. get something for this bum in a trade. he looked good out of the pen last year. perhaps his arm only has 30-40 pitches per outing left in it.

Does anyone think this will be motivate KW to consider moving to the bullpen? Think about it. Wouldn't it be in his best interest to come back in the second half of the year and prove that he has what it takes to close. The Cubs might be inclined to re-negoitate his deal or he'd be more marketable. As it is, how much do you think he'd get after the Cubs release him? I think he has what it takes to be a (and possibly THE) dominant closer in the game. Let's hope he talks with Smoltz, Eck or Gagne, and they can talks some sense into him.

Last year in the pen he was still pitching 97-98 MPH. This year he's been at around 90-91. That's not going to cut it in the pen.
