Mexico is in trouble right now as Portugal is up 2-0.

Oh, man, Go Angola!!

It's 2-1 now and not looking good for Angola. They haven't scored a goal in the WC yet and will have to put in 2 to have a chance to advance. I don't think Portugal is going to try as hard in the second half. We'll see though.

Omar Bravo hs a chance to send Mexico into the second round on the penatly kick but shanked badly. The goalie went the wrong way as well. Too bad Angola is scoring goals at the same frequency at which the Cubs score runs.

Quite possibly the worst dive of all time by Luis Perez as gets his second yellow card. The guy didn't even get touched. That was horrible.

EDIT: I don't know who Rob Stone's announcing partner is for the Mexico-Portugal match but he is an idiot. He's steadfastly trying to defend Perez's dive saying that "there could have been a little bit of contact" which there wasn't and "it might not have been a dive" which it most definately was. Perez deserved a yellow card for blatently diving in the box for the sole purpose of trying to get another penalty kick for his team. He deserved a yellow card for that. It's unfortunate for him that it was his second yellow of the game, but that's his problem not mine.

Angola gets a goal and now leads 1-0. Angola will need to put in 2 more goals (assuming the Portugal-Mexico match stays the same) because the tiebreaker after goal differential is most goals scored. Mexico has 4 and Angola only has 1 so Mexico is still safe right now.

Losing Owen is not going to help England's chances to win the cup.

Disagree. Owen has not been playing up to snuff the entire time, now that England can call up someone new, they will have a full-time striker.

Not disagreeing with you, just curious. Who else do they have as options besides Crouch and Rooney? And what do you mean by "call up" - can they drop Owen from the team and bring in somebody else.

They can't. They could've before the tournament started, but now that it has they've only got the roster they have.

The 4 forwards thing was really, really, really, really dumb. Especially when 2 of them are already injured and 1 of them is twelve and was obviously not going to get playing time.

I thought they could call up another player, with the rule that Owen couldn't play again for the rest of the tourney.

I don't think so. Only before the actual games start can you do that, IIRC.

Makes it all the more dumb that Walcott is on the roster.

Half times;

Ivory Coast 1-2 Serbia & M.

Ivory Coast have been whipping Serbia, but gave away two stupid goals; the ref's been a bit odd, not least in the sending off of Albert Nadj (of Serbia) at the end of the half.

Argentina 0-0 Holland

Argentina doing all the pressing - have hit the woodwork - but to no avail. Riquelme looks very good again.

Question:

Who is England? Are they the same people as Great Britan? Are they the same people as the United Kingdom? How many names for a country are necessary or is it all different?

Right.

Looking at this, there are four clear areas; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The United Kingdom is, as the name suggests, the unification of all four of those named areas. It includes the big island and some of the small island and is the name of the team you see in the Olympic games.

Great Britain is the name of the big island - the one that contains England, Scotland and Wales.

England is the bit below Hadrian's Wall and to the east of Offa's [expletive].

Why is this important? If you ever come to the UK, you'll realise that the people of each of the four countries have very different personalities and very different identities - each equally strong. The Scots, for example, have been cheering England's opponents as forcefully as they cheer their own team during the World Cup, as they always do.

You have to explain Scots in terms of the movie Braveheart. otherwise we Americans won't understand.

*Additionally, Scottish men paint their faces blue, wear skirts and roar a lot.

From personal experience with Scots, the roaring part actually is true.
