I'm surprised you guys don't talk about Bill Hall. Not that he is a free agent at the end of the year but a lot of people seem to think Hall is available for trade. Forget the Carlos Lee talk, Hall is an OPS monster, for a SS and 2B. Don't forget he can play 3B very well, and has started in CF a couple games. What would Cubs fans give for him?

Hall is Soriano without the hype. The Cubs are done for this year anyway, so they shouldn't be looking to add a potential FA without an extension in hand. Even then they aren't hurting at third or second, and are trying to develop a SS(I have my doubts about him handling CF for an extended period, and even then, Pie).

In the Free Agent Market, ideally Hall would be a utility player for us, or a starting shortstop(I haven't seen him play much, but the fielding Bible has him as an above average 3B, SS, and 2B), but I doubt he would sign without a starting role(he's on pace for nearly 40 HR), and I doubt/don't want the Cubs to replace Cedeno's cost effectiveness with hope for improvement for a player of Hall's characteristics.

All that said, while it may come off critical of Hall, I like him. He'd be quite the stud if he could put up an even okay OBP, which unfortunately takes a really high BABIP from him.

why is he on the block? looks like a real good player for the money?

you can have hill. :)

I don't believe he is on the block. I have just noticed from other boards that there has been talk like he is. Fans think that he doesn't have a place with the Brewers, but he actually is very valuable. But, I have seen ridiculous trade proposals, like Hall and cash for Lohse from Minnesota. Makes me sick.

Hall can play multiple positions and would make for an ideal guy off the bench. Amazing that the Brew Crew would consider bench depth as a need and the Cubs consider it unnecessary.

Bill Hall or Neifi Perez. Such a tough choice. Not!

I'm going to take a wild guess that Bill Hall doesn't make half what Neifi Perez makes. [-(

Actually, Neifi didn't either, and if he had, Hendry would have seen there was not much of a market for him, and maybe he would not have dearly overpaid for him. Didn't Hendry find Neifi on the scrap heap, Hendry is such a gum shoe, he makes Jerry Krause look like Sherlock Holmes.

Listen, a GM is supposed to pick up players that make the team better, but from Hendry's track record since he has taken over, and specifically since 2003, this team has only gotten worse, which tells me Hendry does not have a lot of knowledge about being a good GM. Which also tells me Bill Hall should not make any immediate plans on coming to Chicago, even if the Brewers made him available.

I don't think that's true. That's why the Cubs have been overanxious at signing Perez, Mabry, and Blanco the last couple years. Why they have gone after retreads like E. Wilson, and traded something of value for Bynum. And this offseason, the Cubs filled the bench before even filling the black hole in RF. I think they consider bench depth a need. Almost too much. The problem is they can't evaluate talent.

Brewhaha;

Quick question; Why in the world was Hardy starting in front of Hall, before the injury? Hardy, to me, is an all-glove/little hit SS like Jack Wilson. Hall is the superior player, IMO, and I don't understand why the Brewers would play the obviously inferior player.

Hardy is on the DL now and when he's healthy I think he will be starting again. He has a great glove, but hasn't hit well like you said. They say he projects to be a pretty good hitter, like .290 15-20 homers a year and want him to get his ABs. But, yeah Hall is the better hitter and that's why he has played 2b, 3b and cf. Both these guys are still young and they need get them ABs.
