On a side note, I was shocked he didn't have a full beard by the time that extra innings game with the Cardinals ended.

It's a little-known fact that Todd Walker actually shaves every 3 innings.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry shaves his chest: "Ahhhhhooooooooooooooo that feels good!"

Walker's power comes in bunches, so I still firmly expect him to hit 15 HRs this year.

Theres just something about Walker that IMO baseball insiders don't like about him. They probably think he can't shut up. I still find it interesting that after the postseason that he had with Boston in 2003, they didn't attempt to resign him. Even more interesting that he played the nice guy 'I signed with the Cubs as a backup because I want to win" when the Cubs signed him.

Anyways, I am not trying to rip on Walker, I like him and am just throwing out wild speculation.

Completely agree. And I might be mistaken, but didn't Walker take a paycut to join the Cubs?

I think the fact that Hendry was actively looking to dump Walker, is almost as much of a sign that he has no idea what he's doing as the Neifi resignings. Additionally I think the fact that many teams had a shot to get Walker and passed is a sign that many MLB GMs aren't too bright either.

Honestly, what more does this guy have to do to get some love from the damn Cubs? All he's done his whole time here is been rock solid consistent as a good hitter, he's a perfect #2 hitter, he's a fine leadoff hitter, he's patient but he has some pop, he plays 2nd acceptably (he's not costing any games with his game, IMO) and he's stepped in at 1st fantastically for Lee since he went out. There HAVE to be more people than me that want to see him back next year. For the quality ball he plays, his price is almost criminal. Sign him and you have 2nd and the #2 locked up. He can play 1st if needed, he can hit leadoff, he can hit #3, he swings lefty, plus you'll have E-Patt waiting in the wings. Let's show Walk some love! Bring him back!

I'd love to see him back, but somehow the organization has a vendetta against him.

Its really puzzling.

Walker can play second base, first in a pinch third base and outfield. He swings the bat from the left side and gets on base. I'll bring him back next season as a starter or as the first option off the bench.

He runs his mouth enough now and when he originally signed as a backup so don't even go there. Then he really will start the lips a flapping...remember 04????

There was an article in the either the Sun-Times or the Trib, forget which, during the off season in which Hendry stated that Walker was 3rd on the Cubs depth chart at 2B behind both Neifi and Hairston. That told me all I needed to know about Hendry. How anyone can look at the numbers and come to that conclusion shouldn't be a GM for a major league ball club.

How often would he have to shave if he played for the Yankees?

I read an article where Hendry said they had 3 middle infielders they were happy with, Neifi, Hairston and Cedeno.

Every 3 pitches.

If Walker grew his beard to ZZ Top levels, he'd be the greatest player who ever lived. MLB forces him to shave his hair down to keep the playing fair, kind of like a whole Sampson deal.

How about that time he punched that old woman and wore a couple of babies as shoes? That was like his 2nd or 3rd most jerkiest day of all time, easy.

Then there was that day he threw puppies off the overpass and set a bus full of nuns on fire.

I'm not expecting Patterson to start at second in the couple years just yet. I can't see how he is any different a player from Bobby Hill until he proves otherwise at the big league level.

This doesn't make sense to me. The Cubs had a second base prospect that flamed out before, so you assume all future ones will be the same unless proven at the Major League level?

It's akin to Felix Pie will never make it because Corey didn't.
