Any word on how he feels now that the cast is off?

It sure would be nice to get him into the lineup to help take advantage of the birds not having Pujols.

Len and Bob said the other day he was taking some grounders at first. No link though, sorry.

I think they also said that, shockingly, some of the muscles where he had the cast are sore. I know that's a huge surprise.

Sore muscles are fine...and to be expected...if he can start playing w/in a week I'll be happy...

on a related note...did Nevin sign a contract that says he can't play first when Walker plays second or is there some other legit reason that Dusty won't put the best offensive lineup on the field?

Dusty has a note from his doctor stating an allergy to playing the best offensive team on any given day. It also states an allergy to NOT playing Neifi. If he goes more than one day without playing Neifi, he breaks into terrible hives and gets wheezy and short of breath.

From a June 3rd Sun-times article:

Lee can't predict when he will return. The Cubs hope it's no longer than two more weeks, and maybe sooner.

From todays Sun-Times:

A DIFFERENT GAME: Phil Nevin felt the difference Sunday between being the Texas Rangers' designated hitter and playing first base, where he started Saturday for the Cubs.

"He's a little sore today because he hasn't been playing defense,'' Baker said. "We have to guard against that. He's just been hitting and going back to the dugout.''

I'm really starting to wonder if baseball players ever exercise. Sore from playing 1st base? That's pretty ridiculous.

Also, another reason why there shouldn't be a DH. If you're sore from playing the field (1b no less), then you probably shouldn't be playing baseball.

For better or for worse, Womack has a hot bat. Best to ride it out until he falls out, then get Nevin in there. As it stands right now, Womack and Walker are hitting MUCH better than Nevin more than likely woul as a starter.

except for our pitchers - they aren't allowed to be sore.

Only Prior, who's a big baby and can't tell the difference b/t pain and soreness.

Nice....

Unreal...but then look at Nevin. Not a picturesque physique!

Shouldn't the Cubs at least give Lee a week or so of rehab down in the minors, just to get the kinks worked out of his swing and of his D?

I'm worried they'll bring him straight back to the majors and he'll go something like 0/14.

Yeah, I'd much rather see him eased back into the swing of things, pun intended. The Cubs have zero reason to rush him with how this year has gone so far. Don't ruin the future by frantically scrambling over a crappy today.

That sounded very scary when picturing Lee himself saying it verbatim.

"LEE DOESN'T WANT A REHAB STINT IN THE MINORS."

"Y-yes, sir."

Anyone else feel like they're becoming a medical expert with all the crap we have to analyze throughout all ofthese injuries?

LOL

In most cases, I'd think this post was sarcastic.

Sadly, I get the feeling that it isn't in this case.

Somewhat of an update...

Derrek Lee (wrist) hopes to take batting practice in the next three to five days.

Once Lee can take batting practice pain-free he will be ready to participate in extended spring training games where he can get at-bats every inning. He is at least two weeks from returning to the Cubs. Jun. 6 - 9:34 am et
