It may have hit his collar bone

 

a Z pitch hit the umpires collar bone? that would hurt

 

Batter fouled a pitch off, which went directly back and hit the ump in the left shoulder, then under the jaw.

The Astros announcers on MLB.TV said that Eric Gregg passed away a little while ago.

 

Yeash, Hrabosky just said it in the CArds telecast.
