The Cubs look like they may get the minimum 1 all-star this year. Which player is most deserving to go to Pittsburgh this summer?

My vote goes to: Carlos Zambrano. After a slow start in April (maybe due to the WBC), Z has been fantastic and one of few positives on this team in May.

If I had as second vote it would go to Scott Eyre -- he's been a fantastic addition to the pen. Too bad he and Howry are wasted on a bad team.

Honorable mention: Michael Barrett. Not sure if punching AJ will hurt his chances or actually get him voted in by the players, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does get him the player's vote -- that and he has great numbers at a weak position (though McCann, Ausmus, Lo Duca, and Piazza have to be the favorites to get selected/voted-in at catcher).

I'd say Barrett at the moment. If he continues his recent success, I'd possibly change that to Z. A few weeks ago I thought Maddux was a lock.

Eyre, Z, and Barrett have shots. Todd Walker should have a shot but considering how ridiculously undervalued and underrated he is (and the fact he's been playing 1B) he will get passed over.

There's many good second basemen in the NL:

-Utley

-Soriano having a ridiculous year. I didn't want him, but his numbers would be awesome here.

-Weeks

-Kent (having a down year, but still pretty good)

-Vidro

Walker has no chance in this class.

Yeah, he's not on the ballot. Snafu. Point still stands.

I think both Barrett and Z are likely to be on the team, and with his recent surge Jones has a shot as well. He may be odd man out due to numbers (the requirement of at least one All-Star per team), but despite his rough start his numbers are All-Star worthy.
