There's an obvious solution to the problem I'm surprised nobody has thought of yet: Bring Doug Dascenzo out of retirement. After all, he has four appearances (five innings pitched) in his career, and he didn't give up a single run, earned or unearned. Therefore, he'd have a 100% chance of pitching a shutout.

Mark Grace and Jose Canseco can pitch in relief.

Any solution that doesn't include the words "Glendon Rusch" is fine with me.

In order to get some value for Glendon come July he needs to string together some solid outings.

Not sure that is even possible, but I would like to see him given the chance to impress some potential playoff teams.

That said, once we trade him........... I fully expect an immediate resurgence to his career.

Here I was hoping that we had enough off days to go with a 4 man rotation.

What we really need is rain, Z, and pray for more rain!

Jim Bullinger could help the pitching staff AND the offense.

Didn't Shawn Boskie start out as a 3B? I remember him going yard.

Is Brooks Kieshnicke looking for work these days?

I still like a Z, rain, rain, rain, rain rotation. And I don't mean Steve Rain.

Jose Canseco would best fit the injury profile of our regular starters.

Yes indeed the 5th starter spot has been decided as Dusty proclaimed Glendon would get the next start needed by the 5th starter.

Rusch earns a start with 9 K's in relief

All in all, that was infuriating to read.

Rusch should get the next start. Who would you rather have make that start?

Someone else that has the slightest hope for improvement. Williams, Hill, Guzman, Ryu, etc. It talks about Rusch earning it with 9 K's and ignores that he gave up 7 baserunners, 4 runs, and 2 home runs in 4 innings. He's been awful for quite a while now, but since he can't get demoted he sticks around until we give him another undeserved shot at the rotation.

And then there was the nonsense about Wuertz "just not being 'there'".

I'd rather take a chance on a kid from AAA than some unproductive veteren ala Fat Glendon.

Personally since this season is basically over as far as a post season birth goes I'd just as soon they bring Guzman back and let him get the experience this year and have him ready for duty next year. Glendon has proved throughout his career he's not a very good pitcher and 9 K's in relief doesn't change it for me...although evidently it does for Dusty. He gave up 3 runs in 4 innings yesterday which computes to a 6.75 ERA. I just don't see how you reward a guy for that performance. Especially a guy that shouldn't even be figuring into the teams plans for the future.

Williams is pitching horribly down there, and I think he is down there until he adjusts his attitude as well. The Cubs weren't happy with him in spring training IIRC. As for the other three, if it is the Cubs fault Corey Patterson played so terribly because they rushed him to the big leagues, then why would we want them to rush Hill, Guzman and Ryu? I think it's very clear those three have a lot to work on before they are ready for the big leagues.

Fair point. I think the only difference would be the mindset that management and the fans take toward having any one or all of those three up this season. The mindset should be that they would be called up to get experience and develop, not to contribute up to a full level of expectations.
