Sending Barrett against Francour was inexcusably stupid. I'm not a huge Speier fan, but he knows (or should know) that Francour has a cannon. Unless Barrett was resigned to going A.J. on Pratt, it was a bad, bad decision.

Everyone makes bone-headed mistakes. Until this becomes a habit, I'll take Speier over Kim any day.

I don't disagree. However, the decision was so bad that it gave me Waivin' Wendell flashbacks.

You MAKE Francouer make the throw. He hasn't earn the respect to hold runners. You bet on him making a bad throw more times then not, till he proves he's a threat from RF. Until then, the decision to send Barrett, was an alright move to me.

? francoeur is regarded as having one of the best (if not THE best) arms in the majors. there's no way you send barrett there.

13 assists in 67 games last season. I think that should have established how good his arm is.

Actually, he has. He has one of the best arms in the league and everyone knows it. Except the cubs.

This is the first complaint I can remember about Speier. Lets just hope Dusty isn't telling him to be more aggressive or something.

You wonder if it was just a bad decision or a desperate move because the offense hasn't been scoring runs. With this slump continuing, you see a lot of mistakes (swinging at bad pitches, trying for a HR, etc.) because of the desperation.

maybe he was hoping the second baseman would cut it off, drop it and then airmail it home....

They'll probably fire Speier using him as the scapegoat and retain Clines and Rothchild.

Considering the Cubs' inability to score at all this season, I think we can let one agressive mistake on the basepaths go.

I have absolutely no problem with the decision, they put the pressure on Francoeur to make the play and he did....give him credit.

In just 67 games last year, Francour tallied an astonishing 13 OF assists. That was good enough for 2nd in the NL behind Floyd (15) and 3rd in the majors.

Francour came up with the reputation for having a cannon. His 2005 numbers were no fluke. Therefore, he deserves all the respect in the world when it comes to OF arms. Its not an acceptable risk with a catcher running and the wind blowing out in Wrigley.

I dont think it was a bad call for Speier to wave Barrett because there were 2 outs

Exactly why he shouldn't have done it with Jones, our hottest hitter, due up next.

And just the other day I was lamenting the fact that the Cubs had managed to lose in every way except wendeling away runs. It's only May and they've pretty much pulled off the cycle.

Never fear, this is a creative bunch and I'm sure they'll figure out some ways to lose that no ever thought possible before it's over.

That ball was smoked and got to Francouer way to fast especially with his arm for Barrett to score. Plus it took us out of the inning with Jones up who has been our hottest hitter this month.

I know...that's what I said
