Can saying tell me why...Hidalgo is still available? Reason to me suggest he might be a decent platoon player in RF with Jacques Jones.

He's got a workout planned in front of some Yankees scouts coming up pretty soon...

Yea go figure, the Yankees have Terrence Long and Richard Hidalgo in their system yet Melky Cabrera is still playing LF.

Because Long and Hidalgo aren't very good?

Hidalgo was in camp with the Orioles this spring, but when he learned he wouldn't have a chance for a starting job, he quit.

I hadn't heard he had signed with the Yankees, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

His numbers in 2003 were very good, but since then he's been in sharp decline. That could be injury related or possible a result of steroids. It's hard to say.

His splits don't indicate that he'd be a great platoon player, though he would hit lefties better than Jones.

How about Jason Ellison with the Giants? Not a lot of power but has hit lhers pretty good in his short career. The Giants also dont seem to want to use him so I think he could be had for little. He also can play cf, though I would like to see Hairston get the abs in cf against lh once Lee comes back.

Another guy to look at is Marcus Thames with the Tigers. Not very good defense but hits lefties well. Since the Tigers are in it they may be willing to take a bullpen arm (Williamson). They may not want to do anything until Young comes back though.

I thought he left camp because his wife was ill.
