I don't have as much of a problem when guys are doing it in the media, cause at least it's possible that it's a matter of gamesmanship and they're trying to get in a guy's head.(i.e. Cards checking the ball on Maddux while he dominated them) But it just blows my mind that he actually believes this himself, and is obsessed enough with it that he brings it up in conversations with a random Cubs fan.

EDIT: WHenever Hawk says something ridiculously stupid, DJ somehow backs him up with some ludicrous explanation, DJ usually gives Hawk verbal fellatio.

Btw, they don't know what OBP is. THEY SERIOUSLY DONT.

Hawk Harrelson said last week that Joe Crede is the MVP of the American League. I'm not making that up. And I think he was actually being completely serious.

I don't hate them like many Cubs fans here.

I'm a 300x bigger Bears fan than I'll ever be a Cubs fan.

Nothing further, your Honor.

I don't have contrived hatred for a group of mercenaries who play on the other side of the town either. I care about them about as much as I care about, the Bluejays, for instance.

I also like the Bears more than the Cubs.

Right off the top of my head, Thome, Konerko and Contreras are better choices off that team.

Point is, only the most passionately devoted among us can muster this kind of hate toward an opponent in another league.

Bears guys need not apply.

Don't even try to pretend you're more passionately devoted to the Cubs than anybody who isn't obsessed with hating the White Sox.

I'm absolutely more passionately devoted than the guys who claim a stronger allegiance to other teams - that's my point.

You can't hate like me if you don't love like me.

No, you're not. Get over yourself.

I'm a huge Cubs fan. And I don't really care much about the White Sox. According to you, you're a more passionate Cubs fan than me. Sounds more like you're just more passionately obssessed with the Sox.

I think you're missing the point.

I'm arguing that my hate for the Sox will obviously be stronger than someone whose primary allegiance lies with the Bears. Conversely, as a Cub fan first and foremost, I don't harbor any ill will toward the Packers.

No, the point is you sound ridiculous when you claim only the most passionately among us can muster the hate of the white sox. I've seen bandwagon jumpers who decide to hate the sox and longtime fans who decide to hate the Sox. Any fan that tries to claim greater fandom or more passion or more devotion, or just that he's a better fan than somebody else, sounds foolish.

I'm a huge Cubs fan, and I'm a huge Bears fan, and I don't care about the Sox. The Packers comparison is terrible, not even close. The rivalries aren't even in the same discussion. If the Packers played in the AFC North, and always did, there would be no rivalry.

Regardless of the Cubs' record, I'll be watching them on September 10. The Bears guys likely won't. Fandom can be easily quantified in situations like this.

Fine. Just input a comparative, non-Cubs sports rivalry and go with it. This discussion doesn't necessarily have to involve the Bears.

JR's point is if somebody favors another sport's team over the Cubs, then they couldn't possibly be as obsessed with the Cubs as he is. I'd agree. I'd give up every other sport I watch for the Cubs.

I'm an ND guy, but the Cubs are easily my favorite pro team.

Understood. I'm not gonna argue over my loyalty here, so whatever.

No, JR's point is that we don't hate the White Sox as much as him because we don't like the Cubs as much as him. That makes no sense.

I'm too lazy to look up the number of teams in MLB right now, but I hate all of them. That's right, I said all of them.
