I never said anything about getting rid of him. I simply made the point that UNLESS he picks it up he will have a difficult time getting a contract that guarantees him more than what he will already make next year.

He has already started to pick it up (900 OPS past 7 days) and is highly likely to keep it picked up for a while. Even if he finishes 2006 with numbers below 2005, he could easily get more money than he's guaranteed right now. Salaries are on the rise again. Ramirez will get paid.

I agree, past history would indicate Ramirez will finish with a similar line as last year, and if he does, I think the Cubs will make an offer to extend him. I was just hypothetically saying if he didn't finish with good numbers and spends some time on the DL, which isn't out of the question, I don't know if he would get a huge offer.

Cabera has the potential to be great so id do it

Cabrera already is great.

i wouldnt put him at the same level as a Pujlos yet but he is close

Posted (edited)

Pie is probably not going to be a leadoff hitter and more likely would bat sixth or seventh, at least to start out. I would say whoever you bring in to play second would be your logical choice to leadoff, maybe EPatt? I think Cedeno could possibly handle batting leadoff, but it isn't his ideal spot in the lineup.

EPatt has really struggle of late in West Tenn with his average dipping down to 268 and his obp down to 314. He is no sure thing, and will most definately not be ready next year.

Pujols is the best player in the game. You don't have to be the best player, or as good as the best player, to be considered great. Cabrera is already there.

i do think it would be in our best interest to really explore Miggy Cabrera-I know it sounds obvious but for me 1) he is dominican like Aram so that may make him want to stay and 2) it gives us a viable offensive 3rd baseman if Aram decides to leave- at this point thro everything not named Pie and Marshall at the fish to see if they bite-

I agree but i highly doubt Hendry would do that

If Aram did stay, maybe he would go to 2nd base because Walker wont be back i dont think after what happened in the spring

:?

I think it would be much more likely for Miggy to move to a corner outfield spot.

id keep murton and hendry wont get rid of jock 1 year into a 3 year deal

it would be a scary lineup if the baseball gods shined on us

Pie

Cedeno

Lee

Cabera

Aram

Murton

Barrett

jones

2nd base

pitcher

You have 9 position players in that lineup. I'm not sure where you have Cabrera playing (I really doubt he could play 2nd base adequately) plus you have a 2B.

Trading for Cabrera would put Hendry one step closer to his dream of acquiring the entire 2003 Florida Marlins.

Ugh...I hope not........Pudge...blech.

2 things worry me about this..

.1 it only takes one team to pay a guy too much to screw this up....see, furcal, rapfeal and orodnez, magglio...

.2 i absolutely do not trust hendry to find a suitable replacement for any top player if they leave...hello, bill mueller or vinnie castillo

I didn't mind Mueller, if he hadn't gotten hurt the Cubs probably would have resigned him. Instead he went to Boston and won a batting title.

And a World Series

That's great and all, but imagine the Cubs offense with Mueller instead of Ramirez. Lee would be the only power hitter.

As far as the original topic of this thread goes, I think that if Aramis opts out of his contract, it will be because he thinks he's worth more, not because he wants to leave the Cubs. So he'd probably give the Cubs first crack at re-signing him. So that wouldn't be ideal, but I imagine that, one way or another, Aramis will be a Cub next year.

That's it!

Eureka!

The 10-man lineup is the way to score more than 2 runs in a ballgame!

Why didn't I think of this before?

Anyway, seriously, less Jones. And Walker's fine at second base.
