The recap will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm going to go have a drink.

7 and 7 time!

Maybe straight 7.

I prefer absinthe.

Don't knock absinthe until you try it :)

For what it is worth, Nomar just got the winning hit in the ninth to beat the Brewers.

too bad worrying about what other teams are doing is the last thing this team should worry about

Yeah, but for me it is important to finish ahead of the Brewers.

lee's injury is a blessing to hendry haters.

take an mvp candidate out of any lineup not called the yankees and they're going to really struggle.

actually lee's injury is a blessing to hendry fans. they can use his injury as the excuse for why the cubs' offense is so bad, even though the offense sucked w/ lee. it distracts from the pierre and jones deals.

uh huh. 5 runs per game before lee went out.

Give me a break with the Juan Pierre cost us the game crap. What has Hairston done (aside from having an OPS 130+ pts lower than Pierre and inexplicably running up to right behind the mound to catch Barrett's throw when Greene stole)? How about Neifi and his 437 OPS being in the lineup? What of Aramis and his 0-4, Barrett and his 1-5, Walker and his 1-5? Take away Jones, and the team was 2-33. There is nobody on this team that could have made a throw to get Greene out at the plate. NOBODY. Juan is not the reason this team lost.

the padre announcers are quite amusing to listen to.

Let's see...in the first or second inning, a guy that's nicknamed "Flan" called Dusty Baker a good manager.

After the Cubs left 'em loaded, the PBP guy broke out in song, "Chan Ho! Chan Ho! It's off to work we go!"

After Bynum's attempt to throw the game, he said something to the tune of "What in the Brant Brown is going on in here!?"

Oh man, I was dying laughing.

are there any good 1b, 2b or SS prospects?? They could move Cedeno to 2b, if they have a competent SS prospect.

Jones isn't playing too bad actually, and they're not going to sit Pierre.

The only scary thing is, not many are worth a hoot right now. Iowa sucks, and the guy there with the best numbers is putting up lower numbers than Restovich was. Nic Jackson's tearing it up at West Tenn, but he wasn't too hot in AAA in his last chance there. The other problem is, the ones nearest being ready for a call-up are all OF prospects. While we do need help there, 2B is a MAJOR liability right now.

we could try eric patterson to see what he can do, brandon sing? i dont know much about him though

They might not be ready but they pulled Murton up and he did well, maybe they can perform decently, they sure as hell cant be any worse than what we have now, at very most he would be a upgrade on defense over hairston and neifi

wouldnt it be great if we could take the 84 sandberg and put him at second, the 87 dawson and put him in RF, the 2003 Lofton and put him in center

I wouldn't mind seeing what EPatt can do for a while...

Edit:

BP predicts EPatt at .261/.324/.419 with above average D.

Sing comes in at .236/.334/.440

Both would be solid additions to our team right now, which is kinda sad...

It had a lot more to do with his inability to get a hit when we needed it. How many times could he have won the game by reaching base? At least twice. Add that to his lack of arm stregnth, and he was pretty responsible.

Patterson's numbers are down a bit so far, and I doubt bringing him up would be a smart move. Sing has been, well, look at the numbers (184/311/342/653). Murton's advantage was that he got ready in someone else's organization and had relatively consistent success everywhere he went. It wasn't a stretch to believe he could do it at the big league level. Right now, I don't think the Cubs have any position players that can instill that same sort of confidence in management, except possibly Coats.

Murton didn't get a hit when we needed it. Hairston didn't get a hit. Aramis didn't get a hit. The team, outside of Jones, had TWO hits in THIRTY THREE at-bats (.060). There were a lot of people not reaching base to give us a chance to win.

pattersons numbers may be down but his defense would most likely be much better than that of neifi and hairston, they are both bench players at the very best.

why we keep bynum is beyond me also

To be fair to Hairston and Neifi, they are decent defenders.

neifi is, but I've seen nothing from hairston to make me think that.

Can someone riddle me why Dempster didn't see the field in this game? In a tie game, every inning after the 8th is basically a save situation, and considering Dempster hasn't pitched in 3 days we probably should've seen him out there.
