For those interested in minor league news outside of the Cubs' organization, Dodgers' prospect Chad Billingsley has a no-hitter going through 7 innings tonight. He's up to 93 pitches right now so I'm not sure how much longer he'll go but it has definately been an impressive start for him tonight. A 7-pitch walk in the 5th inning is the only reason he isn't working on a perfect game right now.

Not his first one - he and Jonathan Broxton combined for one last year in the SL playoffs.

Homer Bailey and Red minor league relievers came close earlier this week and ended up combining for a 1-hitter (Bailey went 6 no-hit innings).

The 2nd batter in the 8th inning singled to break up the no-hitter. Billingsley ended up with a line of 8IP H 6/1, and maybe ironically Broxton finished this game off for Billingsley as well.

Billingsley is going to be pitching in LA pretty soon.

This comment coming from the person who beat me to him in the Roadkill draft. :D

I very much remember the no-hitter; that series was going on at the same time as the Djaxx sweep of the Carolina Mudcats.

I just hope he doesn't make 10 starts this year so that I can carry him as a minor leaguer going into next year.

I don't think you're going to get that lucky, Tim.

So far this season in 5 starts (28.1 IP), he has a 1.59 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 31 Ks and 10 BBs. Not bad.

In what league Tim? He's on my roster in the NSBB league, as is Hamels who struck out 14 in 7 shutout innings in his first AAA start. Im going to have some great pitching keepers next year. Billingsley, Hamels, Verlander, Cain and Kazmir.

***edit*** Ahhh roadkill draft, I see the reference now, some other league I suppose.

We're talking about a keeper league on CBS Sportsline that has several NSBB members. Tim has Billingsley in that league; I have Hamels.

There is this guy named Rich Hill in Iowa that has posted very similar numbers to Billingsley this year, to bad he is blocked at the major league level by the fabulous talents of Glendon Rusch.

Similar numbers, but Billingsley is 5 years younger and has much better stuff and more plus-pitches.

Yeah I know the 2 arent really compareable Im just venting. Billingsley is going to be very good probably projects as a number 1 or 2 starter, I think Hill is going to be more like a number 4 guy.

That will work as Rusch projects as a number 16 pitcher, as in he shouldn't be on the team.
