Given the choice between a great young position player and a great young pitcher, I'll take the position player each and every time. The pitchers are just too much of an injury risk, if any of us haven't realized that yet...

After watching this offense spit and sputter to an 8 game losing streak, do we have anymore people on board the "Lets get Cabrera" train?

I think every fan of every team in baseball is already on.

EPatt, Harvey and Guzman would get their attention for Cabrera.

Then you just have to do that. And put Cabrera in right field.

But I think you're wrong, that wouldn't get their attention at all.

Agreed, I think they would probably want a Murton or Pie, plus a mid level position prospect, and maybe a Jae Kuk Ryu.

I would trade any three pitching prospects for him including Marshall, Hill and Guzman.

somebody said it earlier and i think they hit it on the head-how many prospects make it?

if we still had them would you trade farnsworth, patterson, brownlee. #1 pick ben christenson, wuertz, dubois, kelton, bobby hill, guzman and mitre for willis and cabrera? 4 years ago you wouldn't have! now i am guessing, we would pass along all of them for those 2 alone.

how about would you have traded kerry wood head up for willis 4 years ago? i think we would in a heartbeat!

why worry about saving prospects if you got 2 already productive major leaguers? yes, they could get hurt but so could your prospects! to me a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush...or in this case the bush leagues!

If you could replace Marshall with Hill/Guzman....or both, I would do it in a heartbeat. I just think Marshall is the real deal. And if they wanted Sing, or Harvey to complete it, I'd do that too.

I think if you replace Marshall, the Marlins hang up the phone. They know what they have in Cabrera. If they trade him, it will be for someone that is the "real deal."

I think the world of Marshall after the way he has adjusted to the bigs, and it's because of this adjustment that we should consider selling him for an impact bat. His trade value has got to be tremendously high right now, and we need to take advantage of that before something happens. I'd prefer to not see Marshall and Pie go in the same deal, but Miguel Cabrera is one of the few who are probably worth it.

So we don't have another Hill for Dunn blooper by Hendry.

If I ever find out there was a Hill for Dunn offer rejected by Hendry, I will drive to Chicago and beat him with his own shoe.

I'm pretty certain there was no such deal. Hendry mentioned it in an interview when they were asking about trading Hill for Kearns or something, and Hendry said, "I wouldn't trade Hill for Dunn straight up." There was no such actual deal proposed.

But Vance, if you give them Pie, who is the Cubs CF for the next generation? Please don't say JP.

With both outfield corners locked up for years to come in Cabrera and Murton. A core of Zambrano, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Cedeno it shouldn't be hard to find a servicable center field in the future.

That would require us selling high. That's not JH's strong suit.

With the Ramirez/Lee/Cabrera/Murton/Barrett core, you could just have Greenburg play CF and get away with it.

Good OBP historically. I'd also throw Ronny into that core.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

The line-up for the next couple of years would have:

1b Lee

2b ?

3b Ramirez

SS Cedeno

C Barrett

LF Murton

RF Cabrera

CF?

I wouldn't be too concerned about CF. Buck Coats might could play it. We could look outside the organization for a CF. With Cabrera added to a core of Lee and Ramirez with solid hitters in Cedeno, Murton, and Barrett you could conceivably shift Jacque Jones to CF.

What about Nic Jackson?

On the radio today I heard that the Mets are hot and heavy after Dontrel but the Fish are not ready to deal. And when they are ready they will want Lastinings. At this point the Mets don't want to trade Lastings.

Stay tooned. If the Mets can somehow swing Willis from an in-division rival they will have to be the odds on favorite to win the NL.

Nic could be a possibility, but the Cubs have him in LF in West Tenn. I don't know if Nic still can play CF or not.

He was raking the ball when I saw him this week.
