Jones shouldn't be booed just yet, but at the same time he shouldn't gripe abbout the fans' reaction to his subpar play thus far.

We weren't booing. We were saying "Boo-rns, boo-rns."

This has been your Simpsons reference of the day. Thank you.

Looking back at Jones' career, it seems that at least Tom Kelly had his head on straight. He batted Jones against lefties to the tune of about 1/3 at bats that Gardenhire did.

I do love Jones' ridiculous posing after his homers. He's not a very likable guy. He usually gets himself out as fast as humanly possible and when he hits a dinger he admires it like it's a Picasso.

I think he's likable. He seems to enjoy playing the game, something that can't be said for a lot of players. Now, if he could just stop sucking then I'd like him a whole heck of a lot more.

Yes, most of my dislike stems from the fact that he stinks like hot garbage. Still, it irks me when someone so terrible showbaots when he finally does something worthwile. It seems like he's trying to stick it to the boo-ers.

He just has a bat flip, I don't consider that showboating in this day and age.

The bat flip? I don't think it's showboating. He does it after every single home run. It's just his routine at this point.

I'm with you guys. I don't care about the bat flip. I care about the strikeouts.

I don't really like it. I'm probably overreacting.

I don't like it either. Especially when he has been hitting around .200 when he does it.

He's not gonna just top a habit because he's hitting .200. It's probably ingrained. Like Sammy's hop and Ramirez's stare.

I think EVERY player who swings at the first pitch after the guy in front of him walks on four pitches should be booed. I despise booing a player as he comes up to the plate (Patterson), and I dislike booing a player for simply making an out or a physical mistake, but making such a dumb mistake that is 90% a mental mistake deserves something to let him know that he is playing poorly and stupidly.

Probably already posted, but I'm too lazy to read this whole thread.

Bottom line is this: If Cub fans are booing you, there may be a good reason. It's wrong to assume that it's always someone else's problem. Perhaps fans are upset at the first pitch swinging, perhaps fans are upset at the failures of a ballplayer to even make contact in critical situations, perhaps fans are upset at your refusal to alter your approach. Comparing Cubs fans to Twin fans and implying that Cub fans are less knowledgeable is ABSOLUTELY NOT going to help. I understand a players frustration, but he needs to own something.

I supported Jones until I read this article.

"I'm just getting used to it," he said. "Where I came from, they were passionate about baseball. We probably didn't draw as many [in Minnesota], but they were there through thick and thin.

Oh screw you, man.

They were wining and didn't draw...and their fans are the greatest?

I'm done with Jones

He feels like he can speak up now since he hit a game winning homer. Now that's class.

That quote is great because it assumes a few things.

1) Jones had a "thick" peroid with the Cubs.

2) If he's implying that Cubs fans are fickle, then he assumes we liked him to begin with.

Just...wow. Way to run your mouth, Jacque. Good thing you probably won't start tonight's game.

Is he really implying that Cub fans are fickle?

After the Hawkins debacle, Jones signed here. Don't complain about it now. You knew we could be rough if you play like garbage.

Dude pimps his HRs more than Aramis. It's annoying, but I could live with it.

He's actually on pace for about 110 Ks this season, which is better than he usually is. Get used to his suckiness. :(

Obviously the best way for him to stop the booing is to perform. Hopefully he starts hitting consistently so that we don't have to boo him.

After a couple quotes and below average play ... 20 games into the season.

Ok...

Sorry, I just work there. Derrek Lee castigated the fans for unnecessary booing last year, and that didn't stop them. Cubs fans have always considered themselves the most loyal in baseball, if not all of sports. Now they're just like Philly fans, waiting to pounce on the first player who doesn't live up to their expectations.

BOOING IS NOT A NEW TREND AT WRIGLEY.
