Two dumb lines from that article:

Neither of these guys is the second coming of Luis Montanez, who now is a Triple-A outfielder for the Orioles

yeah... and back then, nobody thought Luis Montantez was the second coming of, oh I dunno, Chris Burke?

I dodn't remember what exactly people thought of him, but I do remember a very negative vibe about him. Everybody thought it was a low risk low reward type pick. Nobody was all that high on him.

Everything I read on it was that it was a pre-draft deal and while he wasn't considered the 3rd best player avail., he would be an easy sign.

Thought this would make you happy, Raisin.

I saw a game of his in Pasadena, that curve is beautiful. I knew he'd end up at UCLA (unlike, say, Heyward or Dent) since his family is big on school and so is he. But I'm happy...Savage sure gets his pitching.

How many rounds does the draft go? My cousin got drafted in the 43rd round last year as a freshman. I am wondering if he'll go any higher this year.

50 rounds, but not all teams go 50.

Thanks. Are all of the rounds completed?

I'm not a draft expert, but I don't think college players are eligible after their sophomore years in most cases.

if he was eligible as a freshman and he didnt transfer then hes going to be eligible as a sophomore because hes going to a Juco

He was going to a community college, but his 2 years are up there. He transferred to University Louisiana Monroe (where Ben Sheets played).

So I have to ask, am I the only one who thinks that the Red Sox draft was absolute garbage?

Hard for me to say b/c I hadn't seen anyone like I had of Bowden in '05, but for the more part the Cubs, Yankees (depending on Brackman), and Boston did not go after overslotted players.

Yanks did nab Carpenter and Peavey in the middle of the draft.

Yeah can't believe the Sox let those 2 guys go, although they did go get Yasmani.

but still, passin on Harvey, Peavy and Carpenter hurts.

Even by overslotting standards, the 18th-24th rounds (or whichever rd. Peavey was drafted) makes it much less likely to sign compared to the 1st 10.

In most cases, the 16th rd. (typically where more teams cut off their marginal picks) is where you'll see the end of the signable overslots. Most cases, that is before the 15th rd.

I absolutely loved the Hagadone pick and I hope you guys can't sign Dent (:)) but he's a good pick too. I'm just surprised the Red Sox weren't all over the local boy in Harvey.
