How is he different than the last couple of HS kids we drafted in the 1st round? *sigh* I really hope not.

he supposedly has a polished approach at the plate. Anyway, if you don't pick him, who do you go with? I'd prefer Vitters over Brackman.

Sure they said the same thing about Montenez. I dont know who else they would take though. I keep hoping that Price or Wieters fall to us. Taking a highschooler is so much more of a shot in the dark.

A week ago, my educated guess for the first three picks in the 2007 draft was Vanderbilt lefthander David Price to the Devil Rays at No. 1, Missouri State lefthander Ross Detwiler to the Royals at No. 2 and Georgia Tech catcher Matt Wieters to the Cubs at No. 3. I still have Price going to Tampa Bay, but now I see Kansas City taking New Jersey high school righthander Rick Porcello and Chicago taking California high school third baseman Josh Vitters.

 

Get used to a constant state of flux, as there's little certainty in this draft behind Price.

Kinda random, but what do we think of Josh Horton? Does he project to stay at SS, and how fast is he projected to move through a system?

hes nothing special. he has a decent bat. hes not a defensive standout and doesnt have very good power. Todd Frazier is probably the best offensive SS in college this year, but he probably won't stick there. cozart, worth and horton are close. college shortstops never have intrigued me personally.

Wieters should definately go above Vitters, but if Wieters and Price are gone Vitters should get strong consideation.

I don't know why people are so completely hung up on HS vs college players. The percentages are close enough to the point where if one player clearly has more talent than another (or, conversely, few questions), it clearly makes sense to go with the more talented guy.

 

Would I prefer that there was an Alex Gordon that would be available at #3? Of course. But I'd also love it if there was a Delmon Young, BJ or Justin Upton, etc.
