because 3rd baseman with less power and less defensive ability than catchers are better.

Are we going to see tears on draft day if the Cubs select Vitters and Wieters is still available?

No. Ill be at work and too tired to bitch when I get home thanks to the 100 deg heat in Texas. Ill certainly argue against it like I did the Soriano signing. His "draft score" or whatever may be better, but because impure assumptions.

David Rawnsley agrees with Mephistopheles:

3B Josh Vitters (Anaheim, Calif.) and 3B Tim Wallach (Montreal Expos)

Tall righthanded-hitting third baseman from southern California with top-level talent. Wallach was a very good player over a long big league career, but he was never a great player. From a scouting perspective, I don’t see Vitters, despite his lofty draft status this year, having an extremely high upside—more like an upside of a player like Wallach.

And my guy:

RHP Rick Porcello (Chester, N.J.) and RHP Justin Verlander (Detroit Tigers)

I think this is as good as comparisons get, right down to the possibility that Porcello could be the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft, the same position that Verlander was selected in 2004. Both are tall, angular righthanders from the Mid-Atlantic region with high-velocity fastballs that they hold far, far deeper into games than most pitchers.

Probbly. I wanted to go watch him this season but havent had a chance. He's playing at Memorial which is about a 45 minute drive, maybe an hour and a half in Houston traffic. Memorial grads include Koby Clemens and Michael Dell yay

I really want Kozma with our supplemental pick, though I don't think he'll be around for it.

He probably will. The 23rd ranked HS guy, would be about 45th overall. Our second pick is what, 48th? There's a chance.

anyways heres a guy that intrigues me later in the draft (4th round or so?)

Brandon Hamilton – RHP - Stanhope Elmore High School

Hamilton may have the highest upside of any player on this list, but he is also the farthest away from harnessing that talent. A strongly built right-handed pitcher, he has been clocked as high as 96 mph this spring, and easily works in the low-90s. His slider also shows the foundation of being a legitimate, power pitch. However, Hamilton can be extremely wild at times, and there are concerns about his mechanics. If he is teamed with the right pitching coach in the right organization or college program (he has committed to Troy), honing his mechanics may not be as big of an issue, and as we all know, one’s ability to master the strike zone has so much to do with one’s delivery and how well he repeats it.

He cant throw strikes, throws real hard and has good stuff. He's a picture perfect Cub.

Im serious though, taking a flyer on a guy like that with the fourth pick if he's there is a good move IMO. I hate drafting crappy college guys with no future in the top ten rounds. Just take a toolsy HS kid and maybe you'll get lucky. (In other words I dont like picks like Josh Lansford or Steven Clevenger over a guy like Adam Coe or Dellin Betances). Granted it's more expensive but it's not something that should affect the Cubs. /rant

Who is that in your avatar? I think that's the best one you've had yet.

There was a story by Bill Plaschke about Mike Moustakas today - I would have posted it but really, it was just a way for Plaschke to rant about Barry Bonds and there was no meaningful information about Moustakas.

Allison Stokke.

She's

Ya I figured it out after a quick image search. The slightly startling thing is that she's still in high school (but she is 18, so it's all legal :))

I'm not a fan of Mayo, but it's worth noting that he has Wieters out of the top 10.

this would be so incredibly stupid, i don't even know what to say about it

How much value does Wieters have if he moves from catcher? Joe Mauer is the exception to the rule, not the new rule. Wieters doesn't have Mauer's athleticism.

Are we really at the point where we're going to be drafting/signing kids born in the 90's? I feel old.

Thats because you are old. I was born in 86 and reading about him made me feel old, I'm still getting used to seeing prospects out of high school drafted that are younger than me.

I'm 24 and right now the Cubs don't have anyone on the 25-man younger than me (though Cedeño, Moore, Pie and Soto have all been up and are younger than me).

It felt weird to see the Bulls in the playoffs a few years ago for the first time since MJ was around...with Deng and Gordon - both younger than me. That was the depressing one for me.
