I don't think Walker will be brutal. The knock on him at second has always been his range, not his hands. Mabry will probably play half the time, anyway. Now, about that Craig Wilson trade...

If the Cubs deal for Wilson they would probably offer prospects. I've never understood the Walker anti-love, he's a good hitter and has always done anything they ask of him. The only squeak we heard from him was when he thought his position was being given away. Wilson is the kind of guy they might pick up to platoon with JJ if they stay in contention; Lee's injury gives them reason to do it now.

Trading Todd Walker for Craig Wilson wouldn't help our team at all. Hairston is going to end up playing more anyway so nothing would be gained.

Wilson would outproduce Walker and can play RF too. Both are FA's after the year. If you were able to guarantee that Wilson would take RF after Lee returns it would definitely be worth it straight up.

That said, there's no reason in the world for the Pirates to trade for Walker, especially giving up Wilson, and especially with Castillo being hot out of the gate.

even though we hav eplayed well, this injury highlights the mistakes of the offseason. i'm sorry but we have put together a lineup that is completely relient on aram and dlee doing what they did last year and staying healthy.

having walker and mabry at first would be much easier to handle IF we had some pop in the outfield. barrett is a good offensive catcher but he(or any catcher) can not be your second best offensive threat.

I don't think he was suggesting trading Walker for Wilson. He was just pointing out who will be at 1B in Lee's abscence. The Wilson comment was to show interest in acquiring him to go along with those 2, Wilson was the PTBNL.

Is there a reason you wouldn't expect Aram and Dlee to do what they did last year? Aren't the Cards expecting career averages out of Pujols and Rolen? You can't go into a season expecting your superstar player is going to get injured and be out for 6-8 weeks. Of course if you are the Cubs GM, maybe that assumption isn't too far fetched.

I don't completely agree with this statement. While I wasn't happy with Jacque Jones being acquired Hendry did make the offense a little less reliant on the homerun. To this point, we have seen the Cubs run more than they ever have in recent memory, and will have to rely on the stolen base and hit runs to generate some scoring. Last years team was incapable of doing that. With Walker, a full year of Murton and Cedeno I think you have some guys who can execute a different kind of strategy than the Cubs have relied upon in the past. And with the additions to the bullpen, which looks like money well spent, the Cubs should be able to win a lot of one run games, which didn't happen last year.

If we could get Wilson for prospects, this is what I had in mind:

Pierre

Murton

Walker

Ramirez

Wilson

Barrett

Jones

Cedeno

I didn't mean to bring up re-considering trading Walker, I was commenting that Wilson would be a good fit now.
