I like Ronny. It hasn't been a smooth road, as I was somewhat shocked when he was first added to the 40-man roster, but I have grown to be really impressed with his approach. Additionally, he has proven he can hit at level after level. Is he a masher? No. Will he be? Not unless fences are brought in about 120 feet I think. But, that doesn't matter. You need guys getting on base, and Ronny does that.

That being said, perhaps its now time to reopen Tejada talks w/Baltimore. Maybe Ronny/Marshall and other prospects gets the thing done. Probably not. But, I would still reopen talks just to start churning the coals come trade deadline. Ronny and Marshall are showing some talent, and with the anticipated addition of Prior and Wood (knock on wood, so to speak) perhaps it would be advantagious to press the topic at this point.

Just a thought.

While I understand the idea of trading when value is highest, I don't think trading for Miggy would solve our current dilemma. Ronny is a good hitter and is aggressive on the basepaths. His defense will sorely be tested with DLee unable to bail him out of bad throws, but overall he is a strength to this club.

I wouldn't advocate moving a cheap, prodcutive player unless the result would get us over the top for a division/WS. At this point, I just don't see that trade being effective enough to stem the loss of DLee.

However, if there were a way to prove that Prior and Wood were coming back within the month and would be effective for the remainder of the year, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to moving some of our young pitching. As much as I love hearing postiive things about Guzman in AAA, if he was the centerpiece to getting Miggy (with maybe 2 lower level prospects moved also), where do I sign?

Valid concerns, and ones that I agree are important. But, with Lee going down, it would be nice to replace that production. Of course, its a pipe dream, but one that might pay dividends if addressed now by bringing Cedeno's ability to the Orioles' attention.

I don't like losing inexpensive talent either. But, if I can get Miggy w/o losing Prior, I have to look into it.

With Cedeno looking like a viable option for cheap for a while at SS, there are more efficient ways to replace Lee's production than trading for Tejada. Miggy's value is very much tied into positional scarcity, and in the context of replacing Lee it's easier to do without trading/supplanting Cedeno's production so far.

Spot on. Miggy's older, more expensive, and might not even provide that much of an upgrade (especially to constitute the salary increase). Not to mention, Miggy WOULDN'T be replacing Lee, he'd be replacing Cedeno.

IMO, there aren't a whole lot of trades which make long term, or even short term sense for this ballclub. Ronny's playing well, Murton has been okay to pretty good, Pierre's been okay and we know he's not going anywhere, we're stuck with Jaques, Barrett and Aram are the 2 other cornerstones of the offense, and we have a glut of capable 2nd basemen. So where can we make a realistic change? Without sacrificing the future of this franchise their's nary a trade to be made.

It sucks, but we're pretty much stuck with what we got. Losing Derek is HUGE, but if Hairston gets (which with Dusty is the key) the majority of playing time and doesn't fall on his face, and ARam starts to produce, I don't think this team will be as screwed as many people think. However the margin of error is definately narrower.
