I'm really suprized they pulled the trigger on Wuertz this quick i really thought he was going to be a big part of this bullpen this season. Let's hope Wuertz can get it straight down at Triple AAA so he can help out at some point this season.

Wuertz sucked in ST. I thought he would have gotten sent down if Welly wouldnt have been traded. Wuertz was great when not overused. The silver lining is hopefully this will keep him from being overused and therefore make him very valuable down the stretch. Novoa didnt get any time with the valley fever, but has been excellent so far. If he would have been healthy in ST, Wuertz would have started the year in the minors.

Because they need long relief, which Novoa does. Aardsma is working as a closer, and could become valuable later in the year as such.

While I agree that if long relief was needed, Novoa would be the better choice, I don't necessarily see Aardsma getting in any closer work with this team. If Dempster fails or suffers an injury, one of Howry, Williamson or Eyre would probably get the nod ahead of Aardsma.

I'm not surprised to see Wuertz go down this quick. It's obvious he has some things to work on, and I'd much rather see him working on things in a minor league game.

Why not Aardsma?

Good question, although both have done well at AAA so far.

If Pagan goes on the DL I would say Aardsma might come up as the 12th pitcher now that they are back to a 5 man rotation.

After watching the last few games, I'd like to see Restovich hold down a bench spot for a couple of weeks.

I agree with the sentiment but doesn't space on the 40 man have to be cleared for him to be brought up?

Yes, unless Pagan is hurt bad enough to go on the 60-day DL.

I have a sense that Wuertz won't be coming back to Wrigley and will be in another major league uniform this year.

No way. He wont be able to bring any value if he does not pitch well enough to get back up to the bigs.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere (can't find a thread on it) but Cubs.com is reporting Aardsma is up in place of the DL'd Pagan.

Despite usually not liking the 12 pitcher staff, I actually like this. The more potentially useful options we have down there, the less likely (hopefully) Baker is to run Eyre/Howry/Williamson into the ground with consistently longer outings. If Novoa/Ohman/Aardsma can not implode, hopefully Baker won't feel the need to over-extend the setup guys.
