Man Zambrano has really sucked this year *sigh* What the heck is wrong with him?

Again, his last start against the Cards was VERY good. Before today, one bad start, one very good start.

Yes so 2/3 of his games have sucked. Dissapointing for sure

Sample size. Giving stats like "2/3 of his games have sucked" is very misleading, since this is only his 3rd start of the season.

Plus, if he goes 6 or 7 today w/out giving up another run, I wouldnt say this is a terrible start either.

Elite pitchers don't melt down when a miscommunication happens, hit the next batter and then go 3-0 from over throwing and serve up a gopher ball. He absolutely has to learn to check himself.

I have to agree.

If Zambrano can hold them down from this point on, it'll be OK, the Cubs are to going get to this clown (Milton)... Edited by gflore34

Ok, so he's a pretty good hitter, but not a major HR threat.

He's good enough.

Said he hit over 20 but that was the OTHER MIFs in Ohio.

I got flammed on the board a few weeks back for saying that while Z is clearly an ace pitcher, he isn't one of the elite (ie top 10) pitchers in the game. This inning really proves my point unfortunately. He sandwiches a string of Ks around a walk, HBP and HR to a weak hitter.

You do know that Lopez is probably the 2nd or 3rd best hitting SS in the NL right?

Ok, so he's a pretty good hitter, but not a major HR threat.

23 HR and 86 RBI with a .486 SLG% last year in his first full year starting.

He'll hit close to 30 HR this year. He's a HR threat and he's certainly a HR threat with the wind blowing out.

And yet another game thread breaks turns into an argument!

My good God. Zambrano sucked on opening day, threw a great game against the Cards, and has sucked so far today. He's a great pitcher, but his season isn't starting off so hot. Can we move along now?

I'm sorry, but winning over 15 games ONCE in a season doesen't qualify Zambrano as "elite" or "amazing."

I'm not sold on him completely, as being our number 1 guy.

I couldn't agree more. It seems like Z either has a great game or terrible game. When a game starts to go bad he just loses it.

His ERA over the last 3 years is second lowest in the NL! If that's not elite, what is?

How old is he?

Elite? No question.

Do you want to know how many 15-win seasons Jake Peavy has?

I love Zambrano, but he isn't the guy that we would want in a pressure situation. I'm thinking playoffs and world series. I can envision a complete meltdown in a game 7 scenario.
