Just a thought here, but with the recent injury to Gagne, the Dodgers are short one darn good reliever, possibly for the rest of the season.

Williamson would seem to be a perfect fit over there.

What would it take for you to let the Dodgers pry Williamson away?

Okay, okay, how about Williamson, Jones and, say, Rich Hill for JD Drew?

I kid, I kid.

With Brazoban and Baez on the roster, I doubt they'd be in the market.

First: The Dodgers already have Danys Baez, so trading for Williamson doesn't really make to much sense.

Second: I'd take Dionar Navarro for Williamson, since the Dodgers seems to love this Russell Martin kid.

I don't know. Brazoban kinda choked last year in the closer's role, and Baez isn't exactly a top-tier pitcher. I was under the impression he wasn't supposed to be the backup closer so much as he was supposed to be a full-time setup man.

I agree that the Dodgers are, for the moment at least, set with Baez to take over the closer role. He may not be top-tier, but 41 saves is 41 saves, so it's certainly not as if he can't close out games. To be honest, I think that the Braves will be more in the market for an experienced late-inning reliever such as Williamson, if he shows he's all the way back in the next month or two. With an extra $5 million to spend during the season this year, I predict that closer to the deadline, the Braves will try to deal for a closer if Chris Reitsma continues to struggle, much as they did with the Farns last year.

I don't like to think about trading pitchers to the Braves.

By the way, whatever happened to Andy Pratt?

Isn't it the Dodgers who refuse to deal with Cubs management?

What's the story behind it?

I'm not sure of the details, however, Ned Colleti worked for the Cubs for 12 years then worked for the Giants. I believe he had a run in of sorts with Baker while there. Now that he is with the Dodgers, he seemingly doesn't want to work with, or deal with the Cubs.

I'm sure someone else can fill you in better.

That makes sense. Kinda makes you wonder if Colletti offered ridculous money to Furcal just to stick it to us.

Colleti was another guy in the org back when the leadership was absolutely clueless. I think he was part of our team when Maddux walked and signed with Atlanta, wasn't he (not that I'd pin that on him over Himes though...). But he was still part of the regime of idiots if I recall correctly (which I might not...). He was a big reason Dusty left SF (one good move on his part, I suppose). I honestly wouldn't doubt the above explanation for him offering the ridiculous cash that he gave to Furcal. He's a moron. I'm glad he's running the team in a town as sweet as LA.

Not only did he sign Furcal, but he signed Nomar too. Not that Nomar was coming back anyway, but....

Dusty flew out to LA to speak with Milton Bradley. I would have been thrilled to have Bradley in RF and hitting 2nd. Anyway, nothing came of it, and Bradley was traded to Oakland for a marginal prospect.

I want to say that the Dodgers were also interested in packaging Derek Lowe with Bradley to relieve salary, and not many teams besides the Cubs could take on that salary. I believe the Cubs were interested, but that never materialized either.

I really don't know much more than that, but I can't imagine that Dusty left LA with a bad impression of Bradley. I'd guess that LA probably just didn't want to deal with the Cubs. I know Bradley isn't a saint, but if the Cubs were interested enough to make a special trip to meet him and I happen to like the guy, a deal to get him would have thrilled me.

Just to add a bit more to the story, I think LA was a place the Cubs were hoping they could ship Todd Walker. There was a rumor of Kent possibly moving to 1b, which would have opened up 2nd for Walker, at least until Izturis comes off the DL. Nomar wasn't signed yet, so it was looking like a match.

Giving a underachieving SS $13 mill a yr for 3 yrs, again that'll the Cubs.

Glad LA got the "Idiot" Colletti, cause IMO, Ned has no ability to run an organization. And seeing as the Dodgers don't really have a plan for their franchise, they are a match.

My recollection is that the Walker-for-Bradley deal died a very sudden death when the Dodgers hired Grady Little to be their manager.

Supposedly he didn't want TW.

With that way the Giants bullpen gave up a 8 run inning to the Braves, I suspect they MAY become more interested in Williamson then the Braves. At least in ATL, they have Joey Devine that THEY might turn to as closer, before they look outside of the org.

Is the LaTroy Hawkins trade far enough in the past now that San Fran would be willing to trade for another Cub reliever? :D

I think the player they got back was more than a marginal prospect. They got Andre Ethier, a 23 year old outfielder who was the Texas League player of the year.
