I'm officially retiring from criticizing Barrett's D. The dude can flat out rake.

Why? He's still slightly below avg. on defense. Though, I thought he did a good job tonite and the SB was off of Williamson.

His asset is his bat, it gives him more value than almost any catcher in the NL.

I'd rather have that than most of the defense 1st types, see Molina.

Yeah, I'm a little high from the victory now...what I mean is that I will never say we should put Blanco in more because of his D like I did last year.

I agree.

Barrett's D is still slightly below average or right at average. He's not Johnny Bench, but as catchers go, offensively is one of the best. From what I have read, his work ethic is very good and he is doing everythinghe can to improve his defense. He had an excellent block in the dirt tonight that made me think of this thread.

The worst defensive catcher in baseball. I don't think so. Slightly below average I can buy, and with his bat, he should be in the line-up 4 out of 5 games.

Look, everybody SHOULD know by know what Barrett brings to the table. Above average production at a position that is dominated by "defensive p;ayers." I would not trade Barrett for any "great defensive catcher who can't hit". I'm tired of players like Sandy Martinez, Paul Bako, etc, and the Cubs finally got a catcher who actually produces, and is not an "automatic out." Look, Barrett is no gold glover, BUT, he isn't that bad defensively that the Cubs should consider taking his bat out of the lineup. Barrett SHOUJLD be an All-Star this yr, and IMO, is the best offensive catcher in the NL.

I agree that he is bad defensivly, but the worst defensive catcher ever is a little harsh.

His arm has looked weaker than it did early last year, but to call him the "worst" is ignorant.

that block of the ball in the dirt was huge, and about as difficult of a block as I have ever seen. I forget whether it was when Encarnacion or Pujols was up, but the bases were juiced at the time. that block, combined with Cedeno stopping Rolen's roller from reaching the outfield really helped keep the Cubs in the game.
