Every single time, it never fails. We get rid of a guy and he turns out and atleast has a couple good years. Just once i would like to see a guy we get rid of fail.

Welcome to the boards!

Mitre had a couple good games for us too, but looking at the body of work, he shouldn't be much better than an average starting pitcher. Really bad pitchers have great games too (see all slow tossing lefty's vs. the Cubs).

(Maybe) like Farns, he performs better not under pressure? Except for a few starts last year

Since we're overreacting over one game performances, let's look at who got for him.

Pierre: 3-6, 3 runs, 1 RBI, 3B

Looks like a pretty even trade right now. I'll take the guy who plays every day.

i don't think he's going to be some stud but he's a great guy to have at the back end of a rotation, but I'd rather have Pierre than him. But like the sig says I'll miss him, because when he's on he's alot of fun to watch.

I'm a big Sergio Mitre fan -- as evidenced by my defense of him for the past two seasons. I think he'll do very well in Miami's cavernous stadium. If the Marlins can score some runs for him, he'll do very well. Sergio will probably make a very solid 3 or 4 in the Marlins rotation for some time.

By the way, Welly looked good today, too.

What if Pinto, Nolasco, and Mitre pitch 3 out of every 5 days?

Shut it, kitty-cat. Lest I offer the observation that the Marlins can field a rotation of Willis, Mitre, Nolasco, Pinto and Wellemeyer. I think I'd take that over Zambrano, Rusch, Maddux, Marshall and Williams.

Granted, I like having that whole Wood, Miller and Prior combo... Boy, would a May-October of Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Miller and Maddux be insanely awesome. It really makes me drool. (And it brings to mind that JC was really quite correct about the Maddux signing. It's an expensive albatross now.)

Most people thought it was a bad deal when it was signed.

The Marlins now have Willis, Borowski, Wellemeyer, Mitre, Nolasco, and Pinto in their organization. Wow.

I think Mitre has the talent to be very good. The way he pitched against Halladay was an amazing pitching performance. That being said, there was no room for him here.

Can anyone honestly say that they knew who Dontrelle Willis was when we traded him - and that he would turn out to be valuable major leaguer? I'm not about to. I was happy to add Clement and Alfonseca. We needed a closer and it turned out Clement was a very good starter. A year or two later Willis has a great rookie year. I'm so tired of hearing about how we could let him go to Florida. He was an 18 year old rookie baller who pitched in exactly 9 games for us.

1/3 of their active pitchers were traded to them by the Cubs.

Florida active pitchers who were Cubs or in the Cubs' system...

Joe Borowski

Sergio Mitre

Ricky Nolasco

Todd Wellemeyer

Dontrelle Willis

I know, but he was a former Cub and basically rejuvenated his career through the Cubs. Just thought I'd make that point.

there was a thread about this a couple of months ago. someone claimed they predicted great succsess for him, but if you could distinguish anyone from that Boise squad you were either clairvoyant or had alot of time on your hands to bum around the Pacific northwest. there were four pitchers who absolutely blew the league away...Mitre was one, as was Guzman.

I don't see where anyone was complaining about the Willlis-Clement trade. I certainly wasn't.

Maybe not here but it's out there. I just looked at the overall picture of people talking about how they've got all of those former Cubs prospects. I'm not the least bit concerned about Mitre, Wellemeyer or Nolasco. I'm not really sure that Pinto's ever going to come back and haunt us either.

just find a thread that examines Hendry's ability to make trades. someone always brings it up.
