Felix Pie takes up mantle as top prospect in a rapidly thinning organization.

even after all the prospects from trades, let alone their own, i would think the marlins would be higher.

and who do the dodgers have that's so good? i know arizona has some studs, but la?

The thing that shocked me was Atlanta at #7 after graduating like 15-20 guys to the majors (went from 5 to 7). That's just scary depth.

No, that's knowledge of the game and what it takes to win.

Yup. I'm so insanely jealous of that organization.

Just as our system is "falling" in BA's rankings the major league club is getting a stream of position prospects and a flood of pitching prospects heading to Wrigley.

BA overrated the Cubs' system a few years ago and is now underrating the Cubs' system.

I don't think they're really underrating the system. The system has suffered some major setbacks from the heydays of a few years ago - lack of international signings, injuries and the promotions of players from the Prior/Zambrano days. This has thinned the system.

The ranking may not look good, but the Cubs look like they will get contributions from Murton and Cedeno this year in the field. Marshall has come out of nowhere to win the 4th starter's job. Ryu, Hill, and Guzman could all contribute. Guys like Dopirak and Sing had great spring trainings. And that doesn't even include guys like Pie, Patterson, Gallagher, Veal and Pawelek who have a ton of talent.

I do think the ranking is about right. The Cubs have some depth as far as player who should be regular major leaguers, but only 2 with borderline star futures.

I don't think they were underrated before. Prior, Zambrano, Patterson, Cruz, and Choi were all blue-chippers.

Arizona is #1 because they have about 5 potential superstars. LAD is #2 because they have amazing depth. Their depth is more talented than a team like Florida or Atlanta. I tend to like the Angels system more though.

Prior and Z came from the system when it was highly rated. Other players like Choi and Hill were instrumental in getting Lee and Ramirez. The highly rated system of the early 2000's was very successful in my mind. If Murton, Cedeno or Marshall have a good 2006 the system is even better.
