All I know is that I've been to GABP about a dozen times, and when I saw those pics of Busch II it immediately reminded me of GABP. I'm not saying Busch II will be a bad place to watch a baseball game, but the stadium does seem bland and uninteresting, like GABP. A ballpark should have some character, and I don't see any in Busch II.

The stadium isn't even DONE yet. Maybe the 15 National League pennants and 9 World Series banners will give it "character"?

What would give it more "character"? A mound in center field? A train track above the outfield? Ivy on the wall? A roof? A roller coaster in the bleacher section? No thanks. It's a baseball stadium, in it's purest form........ and is expected to be as comfortable as any stadium in baseball. That's fine, by me.

What will give it character is the bestest most knowledgable fans in sports. :pukel:

Soon to be followed by gay comments, fat jokes, and trailer trash remarks.......

So predictable.......

Oh shut up.

Back on topic, it looks a little bland but I'd rather have bland than cheesy. I’m embarrassed to admit the concessions and seat design are pretty important to me.

BTW: doesn't this look familiar?

Washinton Nationals new place:

Proposed new Wrigley garage:

A few observations:

1 - Wrigley desperately needs a garage. Good idea Trib Co.

2 - If the Nationals cop the Wrigley look, I'd be pissed if I was a Cubs fan.

It's the third place to be called Busch Stadium so the name should be Busch III. The old Sportsman's Park was called Busch Stadium in the late 50's and early 60's until the 'Cards moved to the concrete donut that was also called Busch Stadium.

Wrigley hasn't looked that nice for 80 years.

I hope they start doing a massive upgrade to the park. Not the field or the ivy. The ivy defines the park. But the rest of the place needs a serious facelift.

The park was designed with Busch I in mind.

It's a faint resemblance, but the lineage is there.

I think the details at Busch III — steelwork, scoreboard, facade — far surpass those seen at GAPB. If not for the red seats and green walls, I don't think one could visually connect the two designs so easily.

I see nothing in common between the DC park and the preceding new age yards. The DC height restrictions alone ensured a unique look for the Nationals' new home, which resulted in the pancake look of its roof.

Bringing up the Cards success on a Cubs board, so predictable.

It doesn't have to be anything in particular. There's nothing special about Busch II, just like there's nothing special about GABP, Citizens Bank Park, etc. etc. It doesn't have to be anything cheesy, but they should have something to seperate itself from the other parks.

None of that is any more valid than any other opinion on the matter. What's thought to be important or attractive about a ballpark is all a matter of personal taste. Some people, for instance, might think that the playability of the ballpark will be a factor in how "good" the design is compared to other parks...and obviously that's not something that we'll know for some time yet.

Shouldn't we at least wait until the park is done before we start making judgements about it?

At least this time you took out the "racist comments" part.

So, once again, where are these gay comments??

I wonder if this new stadium will be a launching pad like GABP. I personally think GABP looks kind of plain, but have heard it's a wonderful place to watch a game which is all that matters.

I will probably make my decision after a season or two of watching games (probably just on TV) at the new Busch Stadium.

I wouldn't describe it as wonderful. It's not bad, but wonderful, I'd only reserve that for maybe 5 parks.

GABP is very bland and boring. My highlight of the night was heckling Yhency Brazoban in the Dodger pen and seeing Adam Dunn hat that absolute moonshot that went into the river. The design is ugly. The seats are far away. The concessions are awful and expensive. Atmosphere was lacking. And its just an ugly place to watch baseball....

I would like to travel one summer to as many different parks and watch a game as I could but it's difficult while I'm still in school and have to work so much in the summer to save up for the school year.

So if I ever do I'll keep this in mind haha. It's always helpful getting contrasting opinions.

I thought I read in espn.com Page 2's ballpark tour that GABP was ranked towards the bottom of the "new" parks. Supposedly they had better plans for GABP but the Reds ownership cheaped out at the last minute and changed a bunch of stuff to save a couple million.

I'm just gald they're building a new Yankee stadium. Yeah, its the field Ruth played on, but it's the stadium that CBS gut renovated in the early 70's.

IMHO Yankee Stadium is one of the worst places to see a game: they're totally living in the past there.

Give it time to sink in some before you decide its unoriginal. The original Wrigley probably didn't have much character. Any of the defining characteristics of Wrigley werent around until the 30s at least right? And at that time were they immediately classics.

I'll give it time still.
