That last line is not too far from the truth.

 

I went to a Giants/Marlins game in 2002 and saw Bonds hit a broken bat home run down the right filed line. It was the most amazing thing of ever seen in person at a baseball game. Unfortunately this is closely followed by seeing and hearing the ball careen off Mark Prior's elbow last year in Wrigley.

I think Frank Thomas had a broken bat homer once too

 

I hit a check swing homer once in high school. Didn't hurt that the bat was aluminum, that the pitcher was throwing absolute gas (about 92), and most importantly, that the right field fence was like 270. It was one of those perfect sweet spot moments you get with bats sometimes, where you don't even feel the ball.
