Good for McDermott. Please let Altman go to Iowa, he's on the short list of coaches I don't want to see at Mizzou.

What is your list of coaches that you want at Mizzou?

Anderson, Hobbs, Beilein, and Majerus would all be good hires IMO. Apparently Huggins is the hot name around, but I'm not a big fan. Dixon from Pitt has come up and would be a great hire, but I'm not convinced that his low salary(the only reason he'd leave Pitt) is enough for him to come to a situation like Mizzou.

Word around campus is that they offered the job to both the Wichita State Coach and the UWM coach but were turned down. There's probably a LOT of interest for the Indiana vacancy, and to a less extent the one at Missouri.

Doesn't matter for in the end I think we got a good coach, and ANYONE is better than Morgan. He always seemed like a great guy, but any coach imcompetant enough to yield 8-12 EASY baskets every game because he doesn't know when to call off the press or one who fields a team as undisciplined as this years team deserves to be fired IMO. Quite honestly, I'm shocked Morgan was fired, even though he was very deserving. Our new AD has a pair of beach ball sized balls.

Any reason for that? He's the best coach in the MVC in my opinion. Yeah you can point to to his struggles at K-State but there are many reasons for that.

By the way I don't think the Iowa job will come open.

I have to agree with you about Alford not leaving for IU. For the simple fact that Bobby Knight and Alford have a good relationship. That alone would keep the IU Athletic Department away from Alford. If Alford would leave I am kind of glad ISU hired Mcdermott. I don't think he's ready for prime time just yet. Believe me there would have been a lot of pressure to hire him. 7 years ago Iowa got a coach who wasn't ready for prime time now they are probably worse off.

don't let his mid-major status fool you. This is a guy that could have went to a higher profile program anytime in the last couple of years, but he has been extremely loyal to Creighton's program and would rather want to build up that program and stay there it seems like. People also are forgetting that they were without their best player (Nate Funk) for the entire season. I gurantee you if he played this year, they would have been in the NCAA Tournament instead of the NIT. He did a pretty good job of coaching a team without their best player as they were just short of making the NCAA's.

If he's smart, he stays at Creighton or tries to get the Iowa or Indiana job...Missouri is a mess right now and IMO, it would be a pretty drastic drop from Creighton. If he went to Mizzou though, I'd be very happy if I were a Missouri fan..the guy is loyal to his program and he's a very underrated coach to boot.

Altman pretty much failed in his first stint in the B12. He's also not a young guy, so his abilities as a coach have pretty much been maxed out by now, plus he doesn't have as long before retirement as other candidates.

I've heard rumors that Beilein may be looking for his next gig.

Apparently there's a pretty hefty buyout to pay WVU in that event, and if they keep winning in the tournament Mizzou(or another school) may not be willing to wait that long while other contingencies are taken. Beilein is a good coach though.

Tiger you have to look deeper at it than just his K-State stint though. First of all that's not the easiest place to succeed under normal circumstances.

But when Snyder got there they put most of the athletic department funds behind him and the football program. In addition he was still fairly young and inexperienced and it was his first big gig.

What he has done at Creighton has been very impressive.

And he's only in his 40's he isn't exactly old. I also highly disagree that just because he's not in his 30's that his abilities have maxed out.

It's not just his age, he's been a head coach for over 20 years, it's not something like Mike Anderson who's in his early 40's but hasn't been a head coach for that long.

Andy Katz reporting that Alford will interview at Missouri this week. Indiana has informed Alford that he is NOT going to be considered for the IU job. Apparently they have 2 other people in mind.

Very interesting...

Are you hearing anything on this Tiger?

You could do worse than Alford. He's certainly grown as a coach and if he brings Craig Neal with him, he should be able to recruit fairly well.

Very strange.

I heard that they decided not to go after Huggins or Majerus, but nothing of the Alford business. We could do worse than Alford, but I don't think it'd be that hard to do better. He's been decidedly mediocre/average as a coach in a big conference. Aside from this year, he's only been .500 in the league once, only once been to the NCAA tournament, and has a far from impressive overall record.

I agree.

This was his 3rd trip to the NCAA's in 7 years though. He made it in '01 and '05.

He has grown into the position though and I feel he has become a much better head coach and he would run a clean program at Mizzou.

But you're right, you guys could do better.

Rumors I'm hearing that Alford is gone from Iowa - not sure where he's headed.

Just what I'm hearing right now.

When I saw you started the new thread, I went to the trouble to reply, and I don't want it to go to waste, even though I've already stated my thoughts on Alford.

Right after I posted it, I looked under this topic and say it was here. I didn't want to be posting the same thing over and over again.

So I deleted it - sorry.

This is going to be an interesting few days to see what goes down.

Why did you guys take Huggins and Majerus off the list and put Alford on it?
