Ronny said something like that during the WGN radio broadcast of the Cubs vs. Sox. Santo seems to really thing Hendry will be out to get another starter (which he should have gotten anyway). .

How much credibility do you give to that statement. And if so, who could Jim POSSIBLY pry away from another team?

-I don't give it much credence. I think Hendry felt by acquiring Miller that he was getting extra. Myguess is that the Cubs will do what they have said; go with a 4-man rotation and work in a minor league arm when the 5th spot is needed (unless Prior is able to pitch by April 15th).

My feeling is that Hendry will put out feelers to see who might be available, but he won't overpay or get desperate to acquire one.

You have 4 starters now.Hill,Guzman,Koronka,Wellemeyer. as a 5.Hill is 26 years old and we won't trade him but he can't step in as a 5 yet?I think if they trade for a starter to add to this they feel Prior will not go all year.

Please dont mention Koronka in that conversation :D I think you should add Ryu to the list.

Didn't really want to mention Koronka but I'm not the one who called him up and let him start games.

True, so I guess his name is definitely in there than.

I concur. It is a little early to hit the panic button. Besides, Wood and Miller should be ready by May, Prior too. If Wood and Miller can stay healthy the Cubs will have a formitable rotation. Plus they also have Guzman, Marshall, Hill, and perhaps Ryu who can step in.

Unless Hendry knows something we don't (actually he probably know a lot more than us) I don't see the Cubs getting some filler pitcher before they know how things are going to shake out.

Marshall shows some promise, but I'm not sure he's ready. Of course, there's always a Walker for Clement plus cash deal or a Walker plus someone else for Clement, Graffanino, and cash deal.

If he trades for another starter it better be a 2 or a 3.Because right now Maddux is not a 2,Williams has to prove hes a 3 and Rusch is not a 4.

Clement who I was thinking of.Wish he was back.Hated to see him go.

If Hendry is adamant about trading Walker, then I hope he deals him for a starter. With that in mind, what teams could use Walker and would be willing to give up a starter for him?

I think you would have to eliminate Guzman as he is not ready to handle any kind of load, needs to make some starts in the minors. Marshall would be interesting but he needs a bit more time as well. I think it comes down to Hill and Ryu (hopefully) and I would be fine with either.

In the case of Guzman, why would pitching one start in the majors be any more of a strain than pitching in the minors?

I certainly don't want to see him go out and get another starter either. But I would rather see him give Marshall, Ryu, or Guzman a shot. Heck I would prefer we just didn't even have Rusch and give 2 of those guys a shot for the first few weeks. I'd take giving one of those 3 a shot over Rusch or Hill. Rush and Hill have already proven they suck. Might as well take a shot at somone coming up and making a difference!!

I dont think it would be a big strain for one start, but he apparently isnt quite ready. IMO he needs to make some pitch count controlled starts to get his arm back to full strength instead of throwing him out there for 5 or 6 innings. From what I hear he doesnt quite have everything back, so I would rather go with Ryu or Hill. JMO, I haven't followed him closely though so I could be wrong (wouldnt be the first time :D )

Im not ready to give up on Hill, but I agree on Rusch. I dont mind him making a spot start here or there, but not as a mainstay in the rotation.

Give Ryu and/or Guzman a shot.

Hendry tried all offseason to find another starter. Didn't work. It's unlikely he will find a quality one now.

Or give Marshall a shot!! Marshall's a freakin giant! I want to see him given a start. I really don't think Hendry needed to sign Rusch at all. I mean he has a few good guys in the minors he could "fall back on" for a few starts. Atleast trying that. You save $3 mil in '06 payroll and you take a chance that just maybe, one of those guys could have a break out year and join the rotation. Wouldn't be the first time something like that happened. But now with Rusch starting. You are taking away possible starts/chances from Ryu, Marshall, Hill, or Guzman.

I actually like the idea of rotating a couple of the young guys out there until the Wood/Prior/Miller injuries are settled. What better of a time to see if any of them having major league pitching abilities than in April.

Also, something completely off topic. What do IMO and JMO stand for? I've always wondered about those abbreviations.
