Reese's contract in voided following his disappearence from camp. Seemingly insignificant to the Cubs, but there's one tidbit in the article that might relate to the Cubs.

With Reese's departure, the front-runner for the second base job becomes rookie Dan Uggla, who hit .297 with 21 home runs last year for Double-A Tennessee -- but also committed 25 errors. A trade for a veteran is a possibility, Beinfest said.

There is no way the cubs trade for mitre. If it happens, I will gladly eat my crow, but there is no way. If they do trade an extra 2nd baseman, I think it will be for low level prospects.

Hmm... here's what I'm thinking. If Soriano issue doesn't work out (Meaning that he won't play OF) in Washington, then do you think that Washington might trade Soriano to Florida?

Since Florida is currently is cost cutting (or saving) mode, I highly doubt that Soriano's contract would appeal to them. $10M for one player would throw quite the monkey wrench into their plan to save in the short-term and stockpile young, cheap talent.

That's true, and I wasn't 100% exactly sure if Florida is actually going to do the cost cutting mode.

It's just one of the scenerios that I foresee anyways. Most likely to happen? Not really. OF course, strange things has happened before.

By the time all is said and done, the Nationals might end up eating a lot of Soriano's salary in a trade.

And what better to work into their 'cost-cutting' mode than a $2.5 million second baseman?

Who could you possibly want in return from Florida for Walker?

They have lots of good prospects down there....maybe a three team trade with sending Todd Walker to the Marlins, good prospects to team C, team C sends us 2B?

*shrug*

But what good 2B are we going to get for prospects? (Don't say Soriano)

Walker + Hill + one of the excess bullpen arms for Willis?

If we manage to trade for Dontrelle Willis I'll change my name to DouchebagMcGee. Until then let's put away the drugs and stop proposing Willis trades.

That "excess bullpen arm" would have to be named Prior or Zambrano for that deal to be done.

:lmao:

What's really great is that the proposed deal is a soon-to-be aged 2B with injuries, a completely unproven young pitcher, and garbage.

Um, as they're trying to cut payroll down there, probably not. I agree that it would take more than that proposed trade to get it done though.

I really don't know if we have the package to beat everyone else out for Miggy or Willis should they truly hit the trade market.
