Not the best bunting technique by Pierre, btw.

Yeah, just what we need - our new leadoff hitter on the shelf with 3 broken fingers.

Pierre is the best bunter in the business. I'm sure he knows what he is doing, unorthodox or not.

I'm sure he knows what he's doing, but he's still leaving his fingers susceptible, unnecessarily. Even if it works 99% of the time, it only takes once to ruin a season.

It allows more touch, even if it is risky.

Exactly. They tell Little Leaguers not to bunt with their fingers curled around the bat, because they don't have the hand/eye coordination to keep their fingers out of the way.

At higher levels, you trust yourself to put your fingers there and get more control of the bat ... that's just how most everyone does it. My college coach insisted we bunt that way, and we were branded as sissies if we were afraid to put out fingers around the bat. And as for his technique, it's very sound -- look at how he's crouched so the ball is at eye level, and he hasn't fallen out of the box yet.

There's a major contrast to why Pierre bunts so well, and Corey couldn't quite get it down, and it's in their technique.

Sorry to rain on the Pierre bashing parade, which apparently now includes how much clothing he wears.

Is it cold in the Phoenix metropolitan area these days? Slappy McNasty looks like he's wearing more than what I had on yesterday, and it was 30 and windy. He needs to get a pair.

It was in the upper 70s yesterday in the Valley of the Sun.

I refuse to comment as it will likely be misconstrued as Pierre bashing again.

Also his bathead is level, which goes against the fundamental bunting technique. Angling the bat up reduces popups and keeps those that do pop up from falling to the catcher.

Zambrano just doesn't look right wearing the white uniform.

It's so much better than the cartoonish blue.

So true.

His bunt is fine, he's got a good bend in the knees, his elbows makes a nice triangle. His hand placement is fine, he has the bat cupped in the web between the index finger and thumb, it gives him bettet bat control.

He doesn't have the bat angle at 45 degrees as previously mention, but he has the head of the bat above the center of the ball.

It's a difficult pitch to bunt, it's at the top of the strike zone, most bunters would let it go by fearing they would pop it up.

I far prefer the dark ST blues over the regular season alternate unis.

I've long called for a color change, as well as losing the pinstripes on the home unis. yes, I know, it's tradition...but it's a losing tradition. nothing good has come of these uniforms, or the circular "C" since they first came on the scene in the mid 50's.

Color change, as in complete overhaul like the White Sox in the 90's when they went black and white?

The uniforms aren't the reason why they've lost a lot of games, changing them as some sort of effort to create a winner would be kind of pathetic.

I'd love to trade the royal blue for navy.

Here's the navy in 1936.

Looks like the royal blue came into use in '37.

What happened to their faces, Earl? Sorry, saw the drawings and all I could think about is what Randy Hickey would say.

As an aside, this is the longest that the Cubs have gone without major uniform changes since the days of the solid blue road pullovers, '82-'89. The current duds have gone largely unaltered since 1997.

What do you consider largely unaltered? Didn't they do something with the trim and/or the names on the backs?
