I lost the edge," said Boone, a three-time All-Star who won four Gold Gloves and two Silver Slugger awards in a career with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins. "All of a sudden, that passion isn't there anymore."

Another suspected steroid user bites the dust.

No question Boone and Giles have always been at the top of my list of non-superstar steroid suspects.

Giles..! I've never had any reason to suspect him.

There has been a little speculation with him. He's like 5'10, 210 lbs, all muscle.

And he's been the same size and the same player year after year. He didn't experience massive rapid growth, or have an out of the ordinary improvement in production. I would be very surprised if somebody was able to be as consistently good as Giles all while using steroids. He was never a 60 homer guy, but he's always been a great OBP, solid SLG guy. He peaked in his late 20's and has slowly declined in his 30s, like a normal player would be expected.

And he looked the exact same way in high school. You can eliminate him from the steroid discussions.

He slugged over .600 from 99-02 which was the beginning/prime of his career. Since, he is under .500 and has had injuries.

And he started doing that in his 20's. The decline came in his mid 30's as expected (and happened when he moved to an extreme pitcher's park). He's also missed a lot more games in his early years than recently, he only has one season with less than 150 games since 2000. 159 and 158 at 33 and 34. Boone didn't blow up until he was 32. It's very different.

He was over .500 in '03 and in '04-'05 he played in a park that was brutal on the power numbers of left-handed hitters. Besides, how is a player experiencing a slight drop in production as he enters his mid-30's cause for suspicion? It would be odd if his numbers didn't drop as he got older.

Well, I'm not making it up that he was built like a brickhouse in high school. Look at all the power hitters that moved to Petco. I challenge you to find one who's SLG went up after they moved there.

You can speculate about Giles, but your wrong.

He missed about 30 games in 03 when he dropped over 100 points in his SLG. I'd just like to see some other players who had a similar rapid decline if anyone can find some.

He moved to a park that killed hitters, why do you ignore that?

And there have been plenty of players that had a big down year in the one year they missed signficant time to injury.

From 67-68 Santo lost almost 100 point in SLG in what should have been his prime years. Was he on roids? At 32 he missed 30 games, was it roids? Between the ages of 32 and 34, Dawson lost 64 and then 28 SLG points, and missed a ton of games. Was it roids? Ryno lost 93 points in SLG one year and 98 another.

Not only did he move to a pitcher's park in 2003, but he also moved to a pitcher's division. Only Coors plays friendly to hitters in that division, and when the roof is open in Arizona.

Note in 2003, Giles had an SLG of .521 before he was traded out of Pittsburgh. The rest of that season in San Diego, he had a .490. The rest of his time in San Diego, he's been in the .400's. He hadn't posted sub .500's since he was a part time player back in '98.

While Boone has been linked to steroids, through his late spike in production and a mention in Canseco's book, I think it is completely assinine to mention Giles like that. His career follows the normal curve that you would expect. He's never bulked up, as if that is a way to tell anyways, and he's never been linked to steroids directly or indirectly. I think the comment that he should be suspected is preposterous if not completely ignorant and stupid.
