I figured I'd kick off this bad boy with Mizzou's home opener today against Illinois St. They're coming off a mixed bag weekend which saw them dominate #1 Florida, then lose to Wake Forest and Ohio State. Max Scherzer should be pitching for Mizzou today, the Junior right hander is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the upcoming draft.

LSU started the season with lower expectations than usual and weren't picked to be among the SEC elite. The Tigers have won eight in a row to bring their record to 10-1 and achieve a no 8 ranking from collegiate baseball (BA ranks them 17). They face winless University of Louisiana at Monroe tonight at home.

Dirks and Olvey have been amazing so far on the mound, a couple more good Seniors on that squad, Harris is huge and Sprowl, while he might be a late draftee or FA signee b/c of his size, he's a perfect team player.

I'm hoping that this LSU team will surprise some folks and earn a trip to Omaha.

You have a good OF'er by the name of James Bennett that might be drafted right in your backyard.

You mean to tell me ULM hasn't won a game. That's pathetic. I went to the Dixie Majors World Series in Monroe last year to see my cousin pitch the final game. There were a few players on the team that were committed to ULM, and I didn't really think they were that impressive. I guess that explains their winless record.

Turns out Scherzer didn't pitch today, according to a buddy of mine he always pitches Fridays, which means he'll go this Friday against UW-Milwaukee at home. Mizzou won handily against Illinois State, final of 18-5.

UW-Milwaukee probably has a better team than ISU, they have a couple of good hitters in Nowicki and Rivera.

You're in for a long year, Raisin. I do like Roenicke, though, he's a solid Senior.

Memphis plays in a very tough C-USA, they'll be towards the btm. They have a transfer from VCU (I think) that I like.

UL-Monroe has had a tough schedule, they've played Missouri and Texas Tech which will kill a Southland conference team.

Yay, college baseball!

My Gamecocks are currently ranked #9 according to the BA polls. I'm hoping to be able to go to a game the one time they play down here in early May vs. the Citadel.

I know ESPN's planning on showing some games like last year, although not as many, but do they have any dates or particular games scheduled yet?

And Raisin, your boy's 1-2 with a single. Showing that Indian pride indeed.

Solid recruiting class though. Hopefully the program is on the rebound.

ULM had a decent team last year, but they graduated a number of seniors from that team. (One, Matt Green, was drafted in the suplemental first round by the D'backs last June.) Hopefully, they'll rebound, but it's not likely this year.

Scherzer actually pitched tonight, bearing the cold to have a decent outing(Mizzou won easily 14-3). He only lasted 5+, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits and a walk with 9 K's on 107 pitches. Here's a shot of the radar gun army on hand to see him:

UK, what kind of players will to Cubs be able to grab in this year's draft? I don't have access to alot of info but Wes Hodges or Drew Stubbs wouldn't look bad IMO.

Stubbs will be gone top 5, too athletic w/a great skill set not to be drafted early. We'll have to wait and see who his advisor is, it might determine whether or not teams like TB, Col, Pit take a chance on him. If he's there when Seattle is drafting, he won't slide past barring some injury.

Hodges might be there, LaPorta will be there for the teams looking to take a sure thing, even if LaPorta does stick at 1B instead of 3B. Wes Hodges is somewhat of an upgraded version of Murton at 3B, Hodges has a similar work ethic as Murton, nothing overwhelming as far as his tools, but doesn't project to hit for a higher avg. and for more power than Murton while being better defensively at 3B than Murton in the OF. The Cubs appear to have some good luck with the bees minus not drafting Micah Owings.

I like Matt Latos, but he appears to be a Giants type of pick.

South Carolina beat #1 Clemson this afternoon, 6-2. The two teams play again tomorrow afternoon. Hoping for the 2-game sweep!

LSU will take town the [expletive] in SEC play this year!

Aww, I looked at the schedule and they only play one 3-game series this year. Maybe they'll meet in the CWS, and the [expletive] will eliminate them like they did a few years ago.

LaPorta plays 3b as well? I thought he was strictly C/1B?
