Who had the most hits in the 90's?

HOF potential because of this one stat and his defense?

Not even close. Not in any universe is he a HOF.

My favorite player of all time. No, he will never have a chance at the hall unfortunately. There are better players who have not been enshrined.

Most similar players to Grace:

1. Keith Hernandez (912)

2. Mickey Vernon (904)

3. John Olerud (881)

4. Enos Slaughter (869) *

5. Hal McRae (867)

6. Al Oliver (859)

7. Bill Buckner (858)

8. Wally Joyner (858)

9. Joe Judge (852)

10. Joe Kuhel (850)

There's only one HOFer in the group. The one thing that group has in common is that they were all good hitters, but none are HOF caliber hitters. That's a perfect way to describe Grace as well.

Grace is one of my favorite players of all time - but I have no problem acknowledging the fact that he isn't even close to HOF standards. Grace was an excellent hitter and fielder. He was one of the greatest Cubs, if you ask me.

I always thought he was going to break out and have a .340 season and hit 25 HR or drive in 100. He just didn't have that kind of power. Funny thing is, if he did all that he did as a 3rd baseman - maybe he might have a better arguement? I don't know, but Grace certainly wasn't the typical power-hitting 1st baseman.
