The interesting thing is, they probably don't want a Prior or Zambrano...too expensive. So we'd basically just have to overwhelm them with prospects to do it, and I think it's worth it.

Not that it will happen, but still.

They'd still want these guys, they'd just want cash thrown in the deal.

Cabrera is my Dunn.

Hopefully, Cabrera is our new Murton. I first thought this would be impossible, but we have a lot of prospects we could throw the Marlins way if we are brining Miggy to Chicago. Murton and Pie would be blocked for years, Walker could fill their 2B hole, Hill could go and we'd probably have to throw in another pitcher to make it work. I'd do, it, however, and i think a deal of Pie, Murton, Walker, Hill, and a pitching prospect might convince FLA to do it, also.

This would leave the minor league system a little bare, but we'd be relatively young at every fielding position except 2B (where Patterson is coming up) and we'd still have decent depth in the pitching in the system.

Cabrera to the Cubs will never happen -- the Universe is not that kind.

But if the Universe does want to be that kind to us, maybe the Cubs can just send over the entire farm and get Dontrelle back too.

Felix Pie, Brian Dopirak, Matt Murton, Angel Guzman, and Sean Marshall for Miggy and Scott Olsen.

I would love Scott in the deal as well, though I'd be shocked beyond all reason if he came. He went to a suburban high school, actually a rival school from my high school. I believe he grew up a Cubs fan too...

I read/heard/saw somewhere that Olsen was in the throng of people outside Wrigley during the 2001 NLCS cheering for the Cubs and against the team that was about to draft him into their system. It would be cool to have him with the team, but the chances of getting him in the deal are very very remote.

Any word from Bruce about whether the Cubs are making a push for Cabrera as the (admittedly sketchy) Angels blog suggested? I doubt there's much (if any) truth to it, though I'd prefer to hear one way or another so I don't get my hopes up unnecessarily.

I agree. I would rest a lot easier if this thing was either confirmed or denied by a credible source....I.E. Bruce.

But, on the other hand, this move would make a lot of sense from the Cubs point of view.

That's part of the reason why you shouldn't get your hopes up.

LOL, I was just thinking that. It almost makes TOO much sense for the Cubs to make this move.

Which one is Albert Pujols and which one is Miggy? (bear in mind, too, that Miggy played 81 games in a pitchers park.)

I'm not sayin, im just sayin.

Cabrera is a freak.

Supposedly the Marlins are asking for Figgins and several top Angels prospects (Angels said no).

That's far above what we can offer.

The key word in that statement is the Angels said NO. Miggy could be the final peice of the Cubs puzzle. I say you gotta give it a shot.

Where'd you hear those details?

the info came via the same person who threw the Cabrera rumor out there in the first place (that Angels blog).

here's some links. decide for yourself if it's credible.

Of course you give it a shot. JH would be [expletive] if he didn't. We just don't have a great chance of pulling it off (if Cabrera is truly available).

We really don't have that dynamite sure thing prospect to get this done.

If the Marlins do shop Cabrera, I think it could work in the Cubs favor that Hendry has made trades with the Marlins in the past and that in the case of Dontrelle, our prospects produced for the Marlins.

Dynamite sure thing prospects won't be traded. The very top tier of prospect most likely wouldn't be involved. The very next tier might be involved, but teams aren't going to line up to trade that guy, plus significant other prospects.

So, while Florida might be able to get the 10th best prospect in baseball, along with another marginal prospect, well out any top lists, the Cubs could offer a couple top 100 prospects, plus a few others that aren't down the list. And they could throw in a cheap young major league bullpen arm.
