Barrett was named to the 30 man US roster today. I remember reading an interview that said something about him not expecting to make the final roster. My only concern is that he wont be used enough to be as ready as he would be during a regular spring training. Its neat that he was chosen though. It is neat that he was chosen, but I really would like it if less Cubs were playing in this thing.

Having both of our catchers in it will be a little odd, who's catching spring training games? Other than them and Lee who else is playing in it from the Cubs?

Maybe we'll call in Jose Macias as our emergency catcher.

As for who else is playing - I know Z is planning on pitching for Venezuela, but I believe those are the only four.

which pretty much means they are going to win, after all they have Z and Santana??? Isn't Aramis playing?

Michael Barrett and Derrek Lee are both on Team USA's official 30-man roster, so barring injury, they'll both see playing time during the WBC. Neifi Perez and Aramis Ramirez of the Dominican Republic, and Henry Blanco and Carlos Zambrano of Venezuela are all on the provisional rosters of their respective countries, however neither the Dominican or Venezuelan teams have decided their 30-man rosters yet. Obviously Zambrano's a lock for Venezuela's rotation, and A-Ram figures to start at 3rd Base for the Dominican, but there's a remote chance neither Blanco or Neifi will make their respective teams. Chances are, however, everyone'll make the team(s), since both Neifi and Blanco are fairly well-regarded as players in their native countries. Bottom line, as of today, February 14, only 2 Cubs (Lee and Barrett) are officially a WBC 30-man roster, but the chances of the other 4 (Ramirez, Blanco, Neifi, and Zambrano) not being on one eventually are remote.

I believe that Barrett, Blanco, AND Geovany Soto will all be in the WBC. Does that mean a lot of playing time for Jose Reyes? Or will our NRI catchers get a chance? (we have 2 of them, right?)

As for Cubs in the WBC, I believe the following are playing (from memory, so don't hate me if I made an error):

Lee - USA

Barrett - USA

Ramirez - Dominican Republic

Neifi - Dominican Republic

Zambrano - Venezuela

Blanco - Venezuela

Soto - Puerto Rico

Aardsma - Netherlands

Soto is on Puerto Rico's provisional roster, but ahead of him are Pudge Rodriguez, Bengie & Yadier Molina, Javy Lopez, and Javier Valentin. Since it's doubtful the final 30-man roster will carry more than 3 catchers, I don't think Soto will make it.

Maybe Neifi will do some catching and get hurt, then he won't be able to "save us".
You can say that again.

Oh, wait; you DID day that again.

I believe this to be a possitive thing for Barrett. He'll be catching a lot of great pitchers. Hes' bound to learn something from these guys and I hopre he returns a better catcher for the Cubs.

After looking over the roster most of it seemed normal except for a few choices maybe certain people turned down the chance to go I donno But I was looking at the staff obviously clemens peavy and willis are great pitchers but C.C Sabathia? Maybe Im missing something but dont we have a better option then that? Just off the top of my head I can think of several Prior, Sheets, Beckett, Hudson,Zito,Mulder, Oswalt,Petitte, Buerthle, Millwood. That and the outfield seems kinda weak Damon is solid and Griffey is good when healthy Vernon Wells is decent but francouer had a pretty good few months in the majors but does that qualify you to make the team or were all the good outfielders on teams?
