  1. Can you bring back the Shawon-O-Meter? I miss that sign...
  2. Dontrelle should have another good season, but with what is likely to be a terrible at best Marlin offense, there's no way he'll get enough wins to be in the running for the Cy.
  3. How about the Washington Monument?
  4. I personally think that if Sosa or McGwire is denied first vote HOF, we need to re-evaluate every inductee in baseball history. Cheating has been a major part of baseball forever. How many pitchers in history used a little something to mask the spin of their pitch? Who knows if Ruth or Gehrig or Foxx used a little something to make them better. Ty Cobb was just a bad human being, does that count for anything? The bottom line is, both Sosa and McGwire put up great numbers and brought casual fans back to the game. That's gotta count for something.
  5. I believe that Barrett, Blanco, AND Geovany Soto will all be in the WBC. Does that mean a lot of playing time for Jose Reyes? Or will our NRI catchers get a chance? (we have 2 of them, right?) As for Cubs in the WBC, I believe the following are playing (from memory, so don't hate me if I made an error): Lee - USA Barrett - USA Ramirez - Dominican Republic Neifi - Dominican Republic Zambrano - Venezuela Blanco - Venezuela Soto - Puerto Rico Aardsma - Netherlands
  6. These quotes seem to be from Dusty's interview on WGN 720 a day or two ago. I think it was the Spike O'Dell show. I was very impressed with the way he answered and listened very closely to the part about the middle infield. When asked about the situation, he mentioned that cedeno, neifi, and walker were all in the mix (leaving out hairston) and said that as of now cedeno was starting at SS and walker was starting at 2B. he also mentioned that the cubs never brought up prior's name with baltimore, but that baltimore wanted him. seems to me that the tejada rumors were largely blown out of proportion. they mostly discussed the cubs caravan and the reactions of Barrett and others at their first cubs convention. I know a lot of posters listen to the Score, but did anyone else hear this interview to back me up?
  7. I don't think the Cruz deal was that bad. Not good, but it was a wash. Cruz played well with Mazzone in Atlanta but was terrible last year with Oakland. And Lewis is only 25 and probably wasn't 100% last year since he broke his leg at the end of the 04 season. I'll give him another year before I give up on him. The Sosa trade turned out to be a very good trade, IMO. We gave up one of the greatest players to ever put on a Cub uniform for a bunch of scrubs, but Hairston outplayed Sosa last season and Fontenot may still make an impact. Plus, we saved money last season and won't have to pay Sosa $18 million on his '06 option. Will we be able to get Furcal or Giles or Abreu with that extra money? Losing Farnsworth was stupid though, I'll agree on that one.
  8. Hendry won't trade Walker until he aquires Furcal or another middle infielder. And I see Nomar not returning as a good thing. It shows that Hendry has faith in Cedeno. Plus, Nomar doesn't have a great chance of getting through next season without seeing extensive time on the DL. After two seasons in a row of groin injuries following his achilles at the beginning of the 04 season, he's too much of a risk.
  9. I appreciate the bitterness after a season where we saw 154 games of neifi, but without the injuries to walker, nomar, and then ramirez, neifi wouldn't have seen nearly that much time. if we were to stand pat right now, walker would start at second and cedeno would start at short. We all know that isn't final, but it will take a lot for hendry and baker to plan on starting neifi, something they never planned on doing last year.
  10. I'm not sure if Ramirez can hit .340 with 47 HR, but he's fully capable of knocking on the door of .330 and 40 HR. Assuming a big pickup for the cleanup spot (pretty big assumption, but Hendry got Lee for Choi, right?) the Cubs could have the toughest 3-4-5 in baseball next year. It's the rest of the lineup i'm worried about...
  11. Pavano is a 4th or 5th starter and if we do make a move in starting pitching this offseason (which I expect) it will be for a #2 or #3 type pitcher (like Zito or Burnett). We've already got a logjam near the bottom with rusch, williams, an aging maddux, and a less than 100% wood. Why add an overpriced Pavano?
  12. neifi is good with the glove... and actually comparable to anderson with the bat (plus he's a switch hitter). if he's used off the bench as was the plan all along (walker and nomar are healthy last year he sees extremely limited action), dare i say neifi is actually a good player for the cubs to have???
