JEREMY GREEN

That was not rue. The Bears/Jery Angelo did not meet with T.O. I do however think they will have some interest.

Why draft a TE when Desmond Clark is a Pro Bowler?

...

Anyways, he's in as a "need player" and Mike Brown is out. Dawkins will be replacing him.

Posted

Brian Urlacher and Olin Kreutz are also apparently out of the Pro Bowl.

According to John Mullin of the Trib, Antwaan Randle El is going to be the Bears' primary target. He also has some bad news on McGowan:

The knee injury of fast-rising safety Brandon McGowan, coupled with Mike Brown finishing his second straight season on the bench with an injury, is forcing the Bears to take a serious look at the future at that position too.

"A late-season injury affects the next season," DePaul said. "[McGowan] is going to miss all of the off-season, and where is he going to be in training camp? Those injuries are tough."

Nice, there was the article that says he wants to play here, so they pretty much just have to offer him a respectable offer.

I don't want Randle El. I have heard some pretty negative things about him from Steeler fans.

If Randle-El is the type of player you're looking for, just draft Brad Smith.

I want a wide receiver not a quaterback. :P

On a serious note, if we are going to get another receiver I would rather have it be one that can make an impact rather than someone, like Brad Smith, that will take a couple of years to maybe develop into a decent player. We don't need any more projects at the wide receiver position.

Vernon Davis Video

Wow, I really want to get him at all costs after watching that video. I would be more than willing to trade up if necessary. He has some really amazing abilities after the catch. He carried 5-6 guys in the second clip.

Sorry Raisin :D

FYI, Mel Kiper has Davis projected going #11 to STL. The Bears would have to move up @ least 15 spots to have a chance @ him, if these projections held true. He also has Pope going to the Bears @ #26. I doubt the Bears would move that far up in the draft. It would cost them too much. TE is supposedly one of the deeper positions in this draft.

No thanks. The window will be closing on the Bears within two or three years, and Smith is raw. I'd prefer a vet WR; we have other projects (Bradley, Berrian, etc.).

And you wouldn't be biased, would you?

Kiper is usually pretty inaccurate until it gets close to the draft. I don't think that Davis is going to go that high. He definatley isn't going to go any higher than 11. So the most we are going to have to move up is 15 spots. It wouldn't take a huge amount to move up that much.

If Davis goes in the top 10, you can make me any sort of sig to use for a month. That isn't going to happen.

If Davis runs anywhere near that 4.41 he supposedly ran in that video, he's going to go at LEAST top 15 and most likely top 10. I haven't seen a single mock draft where he is under the 11th pick. Unless he bombs his workouts, he'll be going very high.

In any event, the Bears have absolutely no shot to get him.

Also, put me firmly in the El camp. He would be a perfect fit for what the organization has been trying unsuccessfully to find. Speedy WR who can return kicks and punts. I hope we don't overpurse and give him too much money, but I'd love to have him on the Bears.

Frankly, the Bears need more speed on offense. They already have a bunch of projects at WR, so they probably wont draft another one. I think El's aquisition would signal and end for Gage, which would be a good thing.

Nah, if I were biased I'd be telling people to draft him instead of Vince Young. :D

Seriously though, they are similar talents. Both were running college QB's. Randle-El is probably a touch faster(although Smith isn't slow by any means), and Smith is more elusive with the ball in his hands. Smith's ability to catch the ball is a bit of an unknown, but that's why you work him out as a receiver to see how well he does. If he's got the hands, he has the other tools(size, speed, agility, elusiveness), that you'd value with Randle-El.

Yeah but Randle El is a much better route runner at this stage in his career. That is something that is also very unknown about Smith.

if turner had a shotgun package, i'd say draft Smith as a QB. however, randle-el is a proven commodity in the NFL, so I'd take him.

Depending on how his workouts go, I wouldn't mind taking a chance on a talented player without a position. Not as a first option however.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I'll make a note of it here, and if it has just ignore me.

If any of you are interested in a Bears podcast, there is a very funny one at http://www.bearscast.com .

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Less actual strategy and more funniness, but worth a listen.

The NFL just remembered that Desmond Clark is one of the worst TE's in the NFL.

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=13963

That is weird, especially since he was replaced by a long snapper.

The article says that Clark was mistakenly put on the team as a long snapper.

I can honestly say Clark sucks. I would be one happy person if he was cut. He is overpaid for what he does if you ask me.

This is the second case this year of the NFL telling a player he was on the Pro Bowl team, then telling him they made a mistake. Tarrick Glenn (Colts' tackle) was informed he made the team, then told it was a mistake and he was actually an alternate. In his case, he wound up on the team anyway as an injury replacement.
