What should they do now? Add a real WR, since Moose doesn't wanna ever use the Stick-em? Get a lockdown corner? A real PR/KR?

I hope the Bears can make the right off-season moves and have another 10+ win season next year. But with the management, I could easily see an 8-8 season, with GB somehow winning 12.

Stay steady. The defense is very young and mostly signed.

Don't resign Azumah. He hasn't been the same since the hip surgury and he says he's likely to get another one. Sounds like a serious condition to me.

Re-sign Briggs. Lock him down ASAP.

Sign Randall El (depending on his cost). Cut Gage. Start the season with a good WR corp. Our PR and KR were huge liabilities this season. That is very important field position for our team.

Go with Grossman, from the outset of next training camp.

In the Draft:

1a:Tight End

1b:CB

2:OL Depth

3. BPA

I'm not really sure what to do with the RB situation, but I'd guess you'd have to stick with Jones. We have a lot of money invested in that area so it will be interesting to see what we do with it.

They aren't going to do much via FA 21 of the 22 starters are under contract next year, work on locking up some players.

Their needs via FA or draft...

TE

OL depth

WR

3rd DB

K

return specialist/special teams

Again, I think it's an overreaction to want a #1 CB or a #1 WR. I can see drafting a WR, but no reason to pay another WR big money, like you did with Muhammad just to push Bradley and Berrian (with solid upsides) to 3rd-4th options.

The Bears need to draft a TE in the 1st. Sign a veteran TE. And get a project type TE late in the draft or via undrafted FA.

My perfect draft would be:

1st- TE (Pope, Lewis)

2nd- OL (perferably guard, but best available)

3rd- Outside skilled player (either WR or CB)

The Bears have the 26th pick in the first round.

I agree with UK's needs, agree with Chocolate Milk on letting Azumah go.

Hopefully in day 1, the Bears get a TE (Marcedes!!), an OG and a DB/WR. I wouldn't complain about 2 DBs or 2 TEs in the draft.

Heh.

I may be in the minority that wants Pope over Mercedes though.

it's my understanding that mercedes is a project, or simply not an everydown TE. i'm wondering if vernon davis wouldn't be a better selection.

i just wish that there was a TE like heath miller this year. that would have been great.

Boo! If Vernon Davis and Marcedes Lewis are gone by the time the Bears pick (Vernon will be), I hope the Bears look another direction in the first round and go after a TE in round 2 or 3 instead.

Vernon Davis will be gone. Marcedes is not a project and he definitely is an everydown TE. He is a bit raw and needs to add a bit of muscle but should make a good contribution his rookie year and would be a great safety valve for Rex Grossman (as he was for Drew Olson this year).

I would have no problem if take Pope in the 1st round, if Davis and Lewis are gone.

I think they can get a future LT in the second rd., something that is very rare.

What if I liked Davis over Pope and Lewis? :)

This draft is setting up to have more depth at OT than OG.

That's who I meant was Davis. I get the 2 mixed up.

Which LTs do you see slipping to round 2?

If we don't resign Azumah, we need to take a CB in either round 1 or 2. We are extremely thin in that position now as it is. Without Azumah, we'd be in a position next year where an injury at that position could cost us multiple games.

I think in the later rounds we have a luxury of taking the BPA if we fill our needs at OL, TE and CB in the first 3 rounds.

He won't be. And yeah, I did mean Pope. Davis is a notch above both. Then Pope, then Marcedes. Sorry, Rais.

Any chance Marcus McNeil slips to 26? Doubtful. If so, though, I'd gladly pick him then go TE in round 2 or 3. Whitworth (LSU) may be an OT in the 2nd. Lutui could be there in the 2nd also at OG.

I'd attempt to trade Jones for a veteran sure handed Tight End. With Petersen and Benson, I think the running back situation will be just fine with this new found passing game. Let them battle it out for the starting job and find a veteran 3rd down back to add to the mix.

The receiver corps looks pretty good to me right now also if Bradley comes back fully healthy.

If a good veteran can't be picked up, take the best available TE with the first pick. I doubt Pope is still available at our pick, but if he is, it's a no brainer.

We could definitely use a defensive back or two in this draft, but I'd probably focus the 2nd pick on an offensive lineman.

Would the Bears consider trading up in the draft to make sure they could get Pope? Give Grossman a few more sure handed receivers (TE and 3rd down back) and build up the offensive line and the defense will be quite pleased they won't have to do it all themselves next year.

i don't like that "raw" bit. we should not be drafting a raw TE in the first round. john allred was raw and he was terrible. marcedes better be a little thicker when the draft comes around.

Heh, we're gonna have to disagree on Marcedes and Pope. His blocking isn't as good as Pope's but his receiving ability is further along and I think he has a higher ceiling than Pope. His frame and 6'6" size and good hands would be great for Rex.

McNeil would be nice, I'd take him over Marcedes and Pope. I have seen him mostly in the 15-20 range so far, but that's not much to slip down to the Bears spot. I would LOVE Lutui in the 2nd round.

He will be thicker, he's working out on that right now. A comparison to John Allred is really not appropriate.

I like Pope. For a DB i like Youboty from OSU. He's fast and has good size at 6'1. Hes a great tackler for a DB something these cover 2 guys like. He can play close to the line too. Kinda like marlin jackson last year who indy drafted.

Charles Woodson will be FA. He's had some injury problems and might not be too expensive. He's still only 29. If he's not too much go for it. I dont want the bears paying shut down corner money. He's another physical DB that tackles great.

Fill out the RFA paperwork properly and dont do another Holdman.

AP and Benson are more similar in their styles than TJ is with either of them. In this day and age, you need 2 competent RBs, I'd keep all three and hope Benson has supplanted TJ by the end of next season.

As a Packer fan, I don't think the Bears need to do much. The division is wide open again and the Bears have to be the favorite going into next year, no doubt.

One question, I have watched maybe 7 Bears games this year and for the life of me I can't figure out why Mohammad is the Bears go to reciever. Maybe it's just me but the guy is overrated and needs a set of hands.
