Consider the source. I'm not going to worry about this one.

A one-year contract with Wilson wouldn't be a bad thing if it allows Pie to develop at Iowa. A Murton/Jones platoon hitting second in the batting order would be very nice, as long as Wilson batted sixth. Would be much cheaper than two years of Gonzo.

Hendry has money to spend still, so might as well spend it on another washed up OF to keep Murton on the bench for another year.

Any guesses as to Wilson's contract?

A 1 year contract with Wilson would be a bad thing. Murton should put up equal or better numbers at a fraction of the cost.

Jones is actually a very good hitter vs. RHP. Only problem is that you would be paying him $6M a year to platoon.

Also, didn't realize that Murton's numbers vs. RHP weren't so great.

Did anyone go and read the write up on the site...

I've got the latest Cubs scoop tonight. This is thirdhand information originating from a baseball scout, but I do think it's legitimate.

I love this...third hand information.

This guy will print anything.

At least it's not from Dotel's barber again.

Once again, I believe mention of that site has been unofficially banned here, but that would make me nearly as sick as trading Prior for Tejada would have.

Hyperbole. That trade would've been far worse than this move.

As a side note, making Jones a platoon player wouldn't be that bad a move, as Jones is actually a major league hitter against righties.

Of course, Murton's AB's would then be quite limited.

Pet peeve: identifying one poster's feelings as hyperbole. There was no deliberate exaggeration in my post whatsoever. Signing, and likely overpaying for, someone like Preston Wilson forcing Murton to the bench would be an assinine move. Murton will likely duplicate, if not better, Wilson's production at the league minimum, not to mention taking on that additional, and extremely unnecessary salary could potentially limit mid-season deals to help the team. So yes, signing Wilson would, as my post said, nearly make me as sick as trading Prior for Tejada.

Murton's splits are much better vs. LHP anyway.

post of the day

It's said to see that the Cubs definition of "going for it all" includes signing Jones, (kicking Murton to the curb, come on he ain't going play), and possibly signing (Dennis the menace) HEY, MR. WILSON.

4th place.......here we come....

(William Tell Overture is now playing in my head)

We're talking about MLBTRADERUMORS.COM for cripes sake! I really doubt there is even the tiniest shred of truth to this rumor.

The Jones thing was pretty stupid though.

Well, with all due respect, trading Prior would make me not want to watch a Cubs game for a long LONG time (although, of course, I would), while signing Wilson, while it would bum me out a little, would affect me no further than any of the other stupid moves we've made so far this offseason.

Trading Prior is monumentally bad. Signing Wilson...eh.

I'm hoping this is a scoop by this unrealiable site. Imagine how quick this lineup might get hendry and baker fired.

pierre

perez

Lee

Aram

Wilson

Jones

blanco

hairston

obviously i'm being a little pissy cos i know that other lineups are available, but after the romours this week i'm prepeared to watch the cubs bomb and gleefully wave goodbye to hendry and dustbag. If MacPhail could be part of the leaving party that would be nice as well.

I've noticed their accuracy has increased quite a bit lately.

I think you mean Murton could put up equal numbers at a fraction of the cost. There's no guarantee that a guy with success in limited at bats will recapture that same success in his first 500 at bat season. It's just as likely that he hits .250 this year.
