Halftime of the Holiday Bowl on ESPN mentioned that there was now a very hot rumor regarding Manny and Tejada.

Thats the only trade that really makes sense to me. Although I would love to have Tejada. Just not at the expense of Prior.

I have a strong feeling that Baltimore and Boston will make a deal....I heard that their is 22 million dollars difference between manny and clement compared to tejada's contract. If boston agreed to pay half ($11 million) it would be a done deal...pending manny's ok.

I know Manny wants out of Boston, but why would he agree to Baltimore? It is still in the Northeast, and is a bad team. He would have no hope of winning there. Tejada's complaints don't make it seem like a very desirable place to play.

There were rumblings he would accept a trade there.

Yeah, I know. I just don't understand why he would.

IF he is told that the only way that he can get out of Boston is via Baltimore and that the Sox have explored all possibilities, then I think he would go. If he wants privacy, he'll get it in Baltimore...if he can't, then he should be out of the game.

I agree that it doesn't make sense, but if your main desire is to play for a winning team, why leave Boston?

I think there a beef Manny has with Boston we know nothing about and I don't think Manny really cares about winning.

If Manny wants is privacy, he should retire. He will not get it playing anywhere in the majors. He will be a superstar in whatever city he is in next year. When he goes out to eat it will be in the newspaper, when he sells all of his clothes in an auction out of his apartment it will be news. When he goes missing for 3 days in July, it will be news. Manny needs to deceide if he wants to be left alone, or if he want to play pro baseball.

Just Manny being Manny I suppose.

good point...One thing as fans that we have to remember is that players and teams each have ALOT of money....when you sit these guys down in a room and hash things out egos and a lot of other things get in the way..powerful men with egos sometimes don't make a lot of common sense decisions like we as fans do.

And already having a WS ring might make someone as lazy as MAnny content to go to any team and be the man there.

If I were an O's fan, I think I'd be mighty sick of that attitude. :? What do Orioles fans think about this proposed deal?

I'm not a "clubhouse attitude is id the most important thing" guy but Manny is the last thing a wayward organization like a O's needs.

It's too bad we've signed too many guys already to take on the money to make it happen, because Z or Prior + Hill + K-Pat for Tejada + Bedard and then sending Tejada for Manny + Clement + $$ sounds pretty good to me.

You would trade Z, Hill, Patterson, and Tejada for Ramirez, Clement and Bedard?

or

Prior, Hill, Patterson AND tejada for Ramirez Clement and Bedard?

No thanks.

White Sox supposedly have offered Uribe, Contreras and a pitching prospect. While that is not as a good a deal as Manny and Clement, it does satisfy 2 of Peter Angelos's requirements: a top starter and trade outside the division.

White Sox would be darn scary with Tejada in their lineup.

I would guess without looking that the $$$ balance would be easier to work out as well.

Would McCarthy be included?

Serena,

I have heard 3 proposals rumored:

(a) Contreras, Uribe, prospect

(b) McCarthy, Uribe, 2 prospects

© Garcia, Uribe

The other item I heard this morning, which is surprising, yet, if true, would really be sticking it to the Cubs is that Reinsdorf and his other partners/directors have given KW special permission to take the payroll to $105M. If Tejada is dealt, I'd say Tejada going to the Southside is now quite probable.

It appears that everything in Baltimore is in limbo.

Baltimore Sun"] Two club sources said yesterday that the Orioles will not accept the Boston Red Sox's offer of All-Star outfielder Manny Ramirez, pitcher Matt Clement and cash for disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada. While it still is possible that Tejada will land in Boston, it is clear that Orioles officials are looking for the Red Sox to sweeten the deal. ...

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported yesterday that Burnitz had agreed to a deal with the Pirates, guaranteeing him one year at $6 million with an option for 2007. Howard Simon, Burnitz's agent, confirmed that the Orioles had made the best offer with the two guaranteed years. However, Simon objected to certain language in the Orioles' contract regarding the physical that players must take before the signing becomes official.

"It definitely was us more than the Orioles," said Simon on the decision to break the verbal agreement, quashing speculation that the Orioles had pulled out of the deal because they were about to land Ramirez. ....

The deal fell through on Friday and Saturday, much the chagrin of the Orioles, who, according to an industry source, have voiced a complaint to commissioner's office about how the negotiations were handled.

Burnitz's decision leaves the Orioles without a left fielder. They contacted the agent of free-agent outfielder Richard Hidalgo yesterday, but the talks were general. Hidalgo, 30, a close friend of Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora's, hit .221 last season with 16 homers and 43 RBIs in 88 games for Texas.

And there still is a possibility that the Orioles will wind up with Ramirez, though several obstacles remain, starting with the Orioles' asking price for Tejada. The Orioles apparently would prefer getting one of the Red Sox's young pitchers, Jon Lester or Jon Papelbon, but both are believed to be untouchable.

"The parameters from the very beginning is that we have to feel that we are getting fair value in return," said Orioles executive vice president Mike Flanagan yesterday, not commenting specifically on any deal. The Red Sox, Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs appear to be the leaders in the Tejada sweepstakes.

Boston Globe"]

The Sox and Orioles exchanged proposals yesterday, with the Sox making no progress on persuading the Orioles to accept a package that would include pitcher Matt Clement in addition to Ramírez. The Sox would like an outfielder along with Tejada, possibly center fielder Luis Matos, but that scenario became complicated when Jeromy Burnitz, who reportedly was on the verge of signing with the Orioles last week, reversed course and is about to strike a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Without Burnitz, the Orioles may not have an outfielder to include in the Tejada deal. ...

The Cubs, who may be willing to part with Mark Prior as part of a deal for Tejada, remain an active suitor. But the Cubs' offer cannot replace the offense the Orioles would be losing if they dealt Tejada. Ramírez could, of course, but the Orioles have reservations about moving Tejada within the division. Those reservations apparently are exacerbated by Ramírez's desire for a contract extension, though the industry source insisted that Ramírez has not yet told the Orioles what it would take for him to approve a deal.
