The SRT-4 was a kickass machine.

I'd rather drive an EVO, STI, or an R32 than a SRT-4.

And you'd likely be eating the Neon's dust.

2006 EVO - 286 HP with AWD

2006 STI - 300 HP with AWD

2004 R32 - 237 HP with AWD

2005 SRT-4 - 230 HP with FWD

How?

Evo - 0-60 mph: 5.3 sec, $28,987

STI - 0-60 mph: 4.9 sec, $30,995

R32 - 0-60 mph: 5.9 sec, $29,675

SRT-4 - 0-60 mph: 5.3 sec, $20,995

Most EVO VIII runs I've seen have put them at mid 4's on 0-60.

Interesting. The rice rockets really aren't my cup of tea; I was relying on data from the first site I found for the respective models.

The data does prove that the SRT-4 was a terrific performance value.

I wasn't really considering price in there. I was just mentioning what I'd rather drive.

From a couple of different accounts, I've heard that Dodge made a really, really good engine in the SRT-4, but in order to keep price down, they went cheap in other areas.

I'm going to the Auto Show this week anything special to look for? It'll be Syracuses 98th year of having this show, I wonder who had the first one?

I went to the Detroit one, and this is what I found interesting:

- The new Infiniti Coupe and its styling. Looks to be the next generation of the G Coupe.

- People looking at the new Nissan Sentra (Nissan's only major rollout this year) versus people looking the new Honda Civic

- The number of concept vehicles Toyota had

- The new Lexus LS460 ---> the 7-Series and S-Class killer

- The new Vette (just lovely)

- Chevy Camaro concept

- Chrysler Imperial, and how it makes the current Chrysler 300C look like a kids car

- Porsche Cayman, a throwback to a rough-and-tough back-to-the-basics sports car for Porsche

Cool and thanks! We usually don't gt all the bells and whistles that Detroit gets but it is always a very good one. Did you see the Nissan Versa?

I always get sticker shock when I go to these things. I really need to find out if the F150 Crew can hold my family as my Super Cab is getting a little tight.

I haven't been paying attention as closely as I would like. Is it this one?

That's the one. Here's a link to some more pics: Link

Interesting tidbit about the Camaro concept: Apparently there was a different version of the Camaro concept. Wagoner saw this at the 11th hour before the Detroit auto show, axed it, and demanded a more aggressive-looking vehicle.

The Nissan Versa was there, and was a bit of a letdown in all honesty. The Honda Civic stole the show in terms of the small-car segment.

Got my new big-ass American SUV ordered! 2007 Tahoe.

Meant to pass this info on earlier - they drove us from the hotel to the Detroit auto show in the new Escalades and Tahoes, and GM did a great job improving the interiors on both vehicles. I've heard the one knock people had on the older versions is the interiors appeared a little cheap - GM definitely axed that problem with the 07s.

did you know that Chrysler is a German company?

Why do you think I got rid of 'em?

These gas guzzlers are coming out just in time for the highest gas prices ever.

Detroit should've done this 10 years ago.

Did you forget the ford excursion? the 8000 lb SUV released just in time for the previous spike in oil prices

It was touted as much more of a "merger of equals" back then. Had I been in touch with reality I never would have strayed from GM in the first place - that 300M, in black with the 17-chromes, was quite the bewitcher at the time.

I recently picked up a cherry 2000 DTS in White Diamond with the 17s, and any leftover warm feelings for the Mopar are fading fast.

I have no idea how widely it was known, but serious investors knew in 1998 that DM had won the merger.

Japanese carmakers -- or, more specifically, Honda followed by Toyota and Subaru -- took all ten spots in this year's Consumer Reports magazine top picks.

Of the five Honda vehicles on Consumer Reports' Top Picks, four are manufactured in the U.S. The remaining vehicle, the Honda Ridgeline, was designed and engineered in the U.S. but is built in Canada.

I once posted at length about the fallacy of Consumer Reports, but Tim has since deleted that thread.

I think it went something like this ...

I wish I could take credit, but I can't.

EDIT: Looks like the mods left your cliched, done-to-death "zing" up but took down my original, stunning, vera vera nice retort. Oh well.

Didn't know one of those words was allowed... nor did I know that slurring homosexuals was allowed. I guess all in good fun, right?

For the record, there are plenty of kids with rich parents in Florida driving around in Mustangs, Land Rovers, Escalades or other American cars/SUVs. Audi has hardly cornered the "preppy rich metrosexual" market.

And of course Consumer Reports is incorrect based on, what, the fact that it goes opposite of what you believe?

thecarconnection.com[/url]"]It is flawed in two ways. First, it depends on owner reports that are not objectively reliable, and from a sample that, despite its overall size, may not be geographically or demographically balanced and further may understate reality. If people like a car, or believe it is supposed to be great despite their own experience, they simply may not report a problem and therefore it doesn't pop up on CU's radar screen.

IMHO, the J.D. Power surveys — which are tallied with the advantage of a broad sample base — are a far more accurate. Consumer Reports relys entirely on its subscriber base.
