My friend told me that he just saw on ESPNnews:

"theres a hold up in the cubs/orioles trade....the orioles want zambrano more.....but the cubs wont do that

oh jeez, dealbreaker. this deal is dead, now.

please let it be dead.

At the rate Hendry's been going, it'll end up being Prior+Hill+Zambrano for Tejada+Bedard.

Look at the bright side, we trade Prior and the Q&A at the Cubs Convention will be fun

Just wait until you see what I've already written for Tree at the Peoria Caravan. It'll be even better if this trade goes down.

They wouldn't get Bedard, he's just too valuable of a trading chip.

Then let's get Victor Zambrano and include him in the deal. It's not that hard. Oh.....wait, your talking about the good Zambrano.....awww............................heck no, he won't go. heck no, he won't go. he no, he won't go. Baltimore must think the Cubs are idiots (at times it is hard to prove otherwise), but in no way shape or form are they going to get Carlos?

BTW: what does that tell you about the value of Prior around MLB, in that the Orioles would ACTUALLY prefer Carlos to Prior in trade talks?

Man, I'll tell you what - - This team, as it stands right now, hasn't looked better. I sure wouldn't mind standing pat.

---Maybe that's all part of Hendry - I mean Zod's devious plan---

Rather than to trade our top prospects for real stars, he's scaring us with moves we'd hate to do - to make us happy with the team as currently assembled.

Bravo Mr. Hendry! Bravo! Well played General!

Our starting pitching is already pretty shaky.

I'm not sure how we replace that big a hole in the rotation? He's our best, or 2nd best pitcher and we really have nothing else after Z & P?

What good is Tejada putting up 120 RBIs when you can't stop anyone from scoring?

Is Prior really hurt worse than anyone has said, or maybe Hendry has lost confidence in his ability to stay healthy now?

I've got lots of questions about this one. Whenever that happens, I usually shy away. We'll see though. This is the kind of deal that has "RISK" written all over it in big, bold, red letters.

If this trade happens, at some point the Cubs need a three-way trade centered on sending Wood to Texas (as a closer) and having the Dodgers send the Cubs Lowe.

Good luck with that Wood trade. You'd have better luck trying to fold a piece of paper 8 times. He's not going to be traded. He's coming off an arm surgery, his best value is as a starter anyway, and he has a Full. No. Trade.Clause. He's not going to uproot his family and pregnant wife to go pitch for Texas, unless they offer hin an extension, which they'd be crazy to do, given his injury history.

A trade to Texas isn't so far-fetched. He grew up in the DFW area.

So what? He lives in Arizona and Chicago now. Just because he grew up somewhere doesn't mean he'd want to go there. And just because he's local doesn't mean Texas wants him.

The fact that he's from Texas is just about the only reason anyone ever uses to justify sending Wood there. It ignores the realities of Wood's value, contract status, and injury history.

How are the Cubs going to be any good with a pitching staff of Zambrano, Lowe, Maddux, Rusch and Williams? I don't think people realize that Lowe, 32 years old now and turning 33 in 2006 has been around for a long time and isn't all that special. He's had one really good year as a starter, and ever since has been nothing more than a decent innings eater. You're talking about turning Prior and Wood and Tejada and Lowe?

I'm seriously freaking out here. If this trade goes down, I'm gonna do something stupid and drastic. I mean seriously, I haven't been this angry since the strike.

I honestly think this would suck all the enthusiasm I have for the cubs out the window. :(

Yeah, someone else came up with that theory earlier. If that is his strategy, it is working.

Watch Baltimore flip Prior and get Manny and Martz.

If Hendry is so dead set on getting rid of Prior, then they should deal him to Boston for Manny and Arroyo.

But having said that, I think whoever has Hendry's cell phone service should shut off his phone for a couple weeks, and cancel his email, too. Make him unreachable. Keep him away from phones, if he's going to shop Prior.

Maybe he is trying to Dusty Proof the team, but I just cannot believe he'd weaken the biggest strength on the team just because he's afraid Baker won't play Cedeno AND Murton. If this was such a problem, then why be an idiot and sign Perez, just to end up having to deal your 24 year old ace starter because your manager is bloody stupid?

If he's panicking because he hasn't really improved the offense, then why weaken the strength you have left to do so?

It doesn't make sense. There's no rational reason to be shopping Prior for anything less than a top 5 player in baseball.

Maybe Hendry can spin his magic and get BOTH Manny and Tejada.........Hmmm?
