Choi signs for 750K for one year:

Seems kind of stupid to me. He probably could have gotten something better because the Dodgers weren't going to offer him arbitration. Now's he going to get 750K to sit on the bench all year.

Maybe he likes being on the west coast.

He loves LA and K-Town/the whole Korean community in So Cal has embraced him

Bah. Looks like Branyan reupped with the Brewers too. I would have liked to see him on the bench.

Rotoworld:

Russell Branyan - 3B - Brewers

Brewers agreed to terms with third baseman Russell Branyan on a one-year, $800,000 contract.

An unguaranteed deal. We're not sure whether it's more discouraging that this was the best Branyan thought he could do or that he might have been right. He missed time last season, but he's been a productive third baseman two years running and he's not a bad defender. At least a few teams will have lesser starting third basemen. I'm starting to wonder if the Dodgers would pay me to sit on the bench...

That depends. Are you injury-plagued? :D

Actually, I am still rehabbing a torn labrum. No joke. My doc actually told me the other day I should be ready for ST though.

I get the impression that some here think Choi is a good player while almost all appear to think Jacque Jones is a terrible player. Just looked at their hitting numbers and don't see a big difference. Jones hits for a better average and Choi walks more and Jones slugs better and it all pretty much evens out. Why the discrepency in opinions? Is it just the fact of the length of Jones' deal? Just wondering.

Let's see...Jones at $5 million a year or Choi at $750K. That's the difference.

Choi Career OBP .349

Jones Career OBP .327

It seems to me that many people look at batting average as the best indicator of hitting ability...when in fact it's really completely useless.

I think you're going a tad overboard calling it useless. I prefer OBP myself, but average most certainly isn't a useless stat.

Like most statistical analysis, it depends on the sample size.

Agreed, I love SABER stuff but I'll take a hit over a walk any day.
