I doubt it. I really think he's looking for a middle of the lineup type guy, that's why he got Pierre.

Maybe Huff, or Abreu, or Dunn. Ichiro doesn't really make sense at this point.

A guy who possesses 4 of the 5 tools, and is near the top in all of baseball with all 4 of those tools always makes sense. His LOW mark for runs scored is 101 and oddly enough came last year when he set the ML record with 262 hits. Show me where to stand in line to get that #51 Cubs jersey.

Don't forget that Hendry was after Pierre and Furcal a short time ago. If you have a chance to add an impact player like Ichiro, you jump on it. So what if Ichiro and Pierre are batting 1-2? Seemed like a good idea when it was Furcal and Pierre. This combo looks even better to me.

#51 is taken. Gallagher wore #51 in the one Daytona game he pitched. =;

Bruce,

Is there a chance one of these is for Tejada?

No. These are separate deals that have been in the works for some time before the Tejada thing came up.

Thanks for stopping in and keeping us up to date.

So Finley for Patterson or Walker for Mench?

Alright, Ichiro was a long shot. Here's another one. What if one of the offers on the table was Todd Walker and Todd Wellemeyer for Cliff Floyd, Kaz Matsui and $2M cash?

Mets still need a 2B, and desperately want to rid themselves of Matsui (change of scenery might do him some good anyway). Cubs agree to pick up a significant part of Matsui's contract, if the Mets throw Floyd into the mix. Floyd would play LF and bat 4th between Lee and Aramis (with Murton getting starts against lefties). Matsui competes with Neifi for 2B job. The money the Cubs have left gets invested into a 1-year deal for a RF. Perhaps, what's holding something like this up is the resolution of the Manny Ramirez situation. We know Cliff Floyd has a NTC for Boston, so he won't be part of that deal, but the Mets don't want to trade Floyd until they acquire another big bat.

Hey, just throwing ideas out.

I think one of the deals is for Ibanez. He's not great, but I think he'd slot into the line-up well and we're not tied to a long-term investment.

I really doubt the Cubs are even remotely in the Manny sweepstakes, but depending on what the Red sox would want in return, I'd have to consider it.

The M's aren't very deep in the OF: Reed,Ibanez,Everett & Ichiro.

Pico wore #41.

I read in our paper that the Red Sox are looking at Reed for CF if they don't sign Damon. Maybe tis is what is holding up the Ibanez deal, the Mariners want to deal with the Red Sox first and if Damon signs they move to plan B and the Cubs.

there's no other explanation than hendry is after abreu and dunn. those are the 2 trades on the table. i think hendry could have pushed any other trades for lesser players through by now.

optimism. gotta love it.

disappointment. gotta love it to love the cubs.

Yep, agree that Manny's holding up some secondary deals.
